extremely strict - minimal cheese, no caffiene, nothing with hidden carbs. The
ketostix indicate that I'm in moderate ketosis (though I thought I'd be in
extreme ketosis by now, given what I've been eating).
This is the third time I'm on Atkins. The first time, I lost 15 lbs after 2
weeks on induction and as I recall, at least 10 lbs in the first 5 days. That
was 3 years ago.
The second time, abot a year ago, was less effective - lost only 9 lbs on
induction.
I'm wondering if my body has built up a metabolic resistance to low carb diets,
rendering them ineffective. If so, I'll have to go back to a reduced calorie
diet. I was steadily losing 2 lbs/week on that.
I have heard it said that indeed one can have prior "low carb" dieting
episodes will decrease the efficiency of the subsequent trials, but
don't think that I have seen this as published research.
There has been discussion that very low calorie dieting will knock the
metabolism (BMR) off kilter to the low side, making all further calorie
restriction attempts less effective.
You seem a possible candidate for both of the above common claims.
You know, this would be a good time to have had diet diaries from the
past to help you figure out what actually did happen.
Never too late to start.
It is such a *good* idea, I might actually start one myself. Maybe that
would help me figure out my lack of progress.
But, maybe when the sun comes up tomorrow bright and shiny, I will get
out the notebook and rule those nice lines, and *THEN* I'll start my
diet diary. And tonight, I can continue to just second guess myself for
what I have been actually eating and doing while I wait for the weight
to go down.
