  1. Jude, here's a post I put at BROL message area dealing with Dumbest/silliest comment you've ever
received? Should answer your question about how I'm doing with my Aero

Last week I just scooped up my new Aero and had it out for a shakedown ride. Along came two (Always
SNIFFY) DFer's who have always had an attitude about bents. As they rolled past me they looked at me
    and then one stated, "Looks

between themselves. (Now I promised myself, I wouldn't have any DFer encounters until I got my Aero
legs in good shape; BUT I couldn't resist...) I kicked my Aero into gear (WOW! This baby REALLY can
    get up to speed FAST)

both gave me a surprised look and proceeded to try and increase their speed away from me. NOT THIS
TIME! After maintaining 27+ mph for a few miles the PIS... Off DFer's "Acted" like they had arrived
at their destination and pulled off, glaring at me. I waved and happily rolled on! Ken aka EZ Biker
:-) Pompano Beach, Fl. (Aero & GRR Ti Pilot)

PS: Swapping out the shortly grip shifters for some COOL RETRO Bar-end shifters, 1st. thing tomorrow
    morning. (LOVE MY AERO!!!!!!!)

Ed, I agree with you on the shoe issue. I had been using some Carnic(Sp?) road shoes that WERE
    ULTRA TIGHT!

    ......

You are agreeing with someone else other than me (I think Mark) but there is no doubt that too
tight shoes can cause foot numbness and other problems. I have always been told that bike shoes
need to be a close fit (but not tight) with just a bit of room in the toe area. If your shoes were
causing blood clots they were of course way too tight. Skip and I have both totally ruled out a
    problem with shoes.

A too high BB can cause foot numbness because of how blood circulates in the legs. We humans were
designed for walking upright and not for laying on our backs with our legs above the hips. Foot
numbness is fairly common and is the Achilles heel (pun intended) of the high BB designed recumbent.
Most of you who are riding high BB bikes and do not have a foot numbness problem can consider
yourselves lucky. As Skip said, if you do have the problem the only solution is to sell your high BB
bike and get one with a lower BB.

  5. It really does not matter anyway. Most recumbent riders including myself started riding them later
in life. Its later in life that thing go amiss phisologically. I thank God that I have great knees,
great circulation and have whittled my weight down from close to 200 to a mere 172. My goal is 170

  6. some seem to always find a reason to stop. Mine is a loose cleat. I've taken to "agree thearapy"
When someone says somthing derogatory about my ride I promptly agree. Then smile as I partake of
refreshment at the end of a ride with that "What took you so long" on my face. On Sunday's hilly
ride I fared ok. Was passed only by the fitter DF riders and stayed with most. Comments were always
positive. Did have a mishap on a climb...My drinking hose got wrapped up in the deraileur/freewheel.
Stopped me fast. Pretty steep hill, but I free spun it to the lowest gear and was able to get
started. Hose and bit survived...clip did not. Slowest climb 5mph fastest downhill 43.8mph. I'm
gonna try real hard to get to Fl. this winter......However, I say that every year.

Yep, it is about 15% of all folks who will have a foot numbness problem due to too high a BB. If you
do not fall into that percentage then you can consider yourself TRULY LUCKY all right, especially in
view of the cost of an Aero. But that is something you would never have to even think about on your

  13. EZ, I attach my tube to the lip of the seat. I hate clipping it to my shirt....May have to consider
it. As for weight.....For the most part I agree with Dr. Phil. My darling wife, with many physical
ailments has battled weight for years by various methods. All to no avail until reciently. Her
problem and mine also is directly related to our upbringing. My is affluent when compared to hers.
Hence we ate well and her well......lotsa potatoes. I have been cooking since my preteen years and
have worked for a few good Chefs. I cooked large comfortable meals and yes desserts. Now I have
learned portion control and what not to make. We stay away from high carb stuff, little or no fat,
high protein and lotsa veggies. No junk food at all. While we eat desserts...its a portion not a
platefull. To date collectivly we have lost 70 lbs. Keeping it off in the sedentry winter will be
the real test. Someday in the near future I'd like to live up here say from April thru November and
in warmer climate the rest. However, I'd still need to work to supplement my retirement and close or
find a buyer for my shop.

    See Ya.

  16. Tonight wifey surprised me? We made Quiche Mexican style with a salad. I had to make the salad. No
dessert, but there are some large local peaches to be eaten. Tomorrow we leave at 7 am Aero, two
Corsas and a DF for a metric before lunch ride. Visiting riders from the NG. Two from SC one from
NH. Dura Ace Barcons? Hmm.....I may try them. I am going to change my bars to the newer ones you
have on your AERO. I have the early version with a shorter reach. I want to drop my seat one more
notch and the bars won't let me. My reach is maxed. I also have some really neat carbon fiber
lookin' tape and the SRAM hollow pin chain. I'm currently running the SRAM XO shifter kit but mau
try the barcons with the new Dura Ace deraileur I swapped for an XT.

I've gotta add to this thread. Twelve weeks ago I started with the Atkins nutritional approach. I've
shed 32 pounds so far, without very much willpower required. I eat whenever I'm hungry.

The basics for this approach are eliminating flour, sugar, and caffiene from one's diet, and really
watching one's carb intake. No bread or pasta, but plenty of protien and fat. The first six weeks I
kept my carb intake below 20 grams a day. (A single can of cola has around 30 grams of carb.) After
using up the sugar in the blood stream and the sugar in the muscles (within 48 hours) the system
goes into ketosis, burning stored fat as the primary energy source.

I'd like to drop another 10-15 pounds, but I've purposely slowed my loss down to barely perceptable.
I was at 240 twelve weeks ago, and 208 this morning. My goal is to see 199 by New Year's, I think
It'll be easy. I'll probably go to 195 on my 6'3" frame.

A side benefit is the increase in energy. While I can't say I feel extra zip, the give-away was
about six weeks ago. I mowed my lawn (a half acre hill). Usually when I mow that's it, I did nothing
else that evening. This day I decided to hop on the old Shwinn Varsity & check how long it takes to
ride to work so I would know how early to leave if I wanted to commute. This was my first ride in
nearly two years time, and I wound up covering some twelve miles.

Now I'm awaiting delivery of my Tour Easy, and considering registering for the Hilly Hundred coming
up October 19-21. Yesterday I rode the Shwinn 32 miles and was less sore than a fifteen mile ride
    left me two weeks ago.

    Mike Rice

  19. Jude, your Quiche Mexican dinner sounds YUMMY! So far my Dura Ace Barcons are working GREAT. Payton
(Bicyclespot.com) suggested I put some nice handle grips on and now my hands fit perfectly on the
extended handlebars. Nice smooth / EASY shifting too. Again, I've had no issue with making any SLOW
hard turns and having the bar-ends hit my leg. (OK, I did have a little problem at first, as I was
in the very NARROW bank parking lot and made some VERY almost 'L" type of turns. Even then I just
moved my thigh inward and thereby had no problem) I recommend the extending handlebars highly. I may
actually drop down a notch on my rear seat mount holes, before a 4:30 AM ride tomorrow. (Monday)
(I'm getting adventurous) Still flirting with duel HED H3's for my Aero. Ken aka EZ Biker :-)
