LOL I see your point. But unless I'm serving multiple people at a table
(heh, what table?!) I just portion out the vegetables onto the plate(s). No
bowls involved. Dining is a very casual affair around here.
Here, too. Microwaved veggies are done in a pyrex dish with a plastic
lid,
then portioned out in the kitchen. Dish into dishwasher, nothing in
the
trash. Usually I put husband's veggies on his plate, and I just eat
mine
out of the pyrex dish.
The dish can be used over and over, unlike the plastic bags.
Frugality and environmental consciousness traveling together, as
usual.

We have got so used to eating in the kitchen the i disassembled the
dining room table and turned the dining room into a
den/library/workspace for myself.
I don't even serve "family style" in the kitchen any more, foods tend to
go from the preparation pan or container to the plate which is then sat
on the kitchen table, assuming its not a tray in another room. Any
second helpings are easy enough to serve from the prep containers.
Last Christmas for just the elderly relative and i, i put a cloth &
candles on the kitchen table, place mats, got out the silver and the
second best china and had the whole meal set out nicely on the table,
later on over the loading of the dishwasher the elderly relative
suggested it was all a bit extravagant for just the 2 of us and i
shouldn't do it "on her account" which was, of course, the only reason i
did it.
I have a great space for a romantic dinner, a nice faux federal style
games table that i can place in front of the hearth in the parlour and
set up with candles and such. Now if only there were not only someone to
invite to a romantic dinner, but i had even a vague interest in doing so.
