I wonder how much they cost? Maybe next time at the grocery store

Besides that, how often do you want to cook the whole bag at once? It's
easy to open a standard bag, pour what you want into a microwave safe
container, put the rest away. As you say, you can cook it in something
you can serve in as well.

the lids.

No offense but I just came out of a 6.5 year culture where folks try hard
not to waste things. They arent perfect in Japan but I took on quite a few
ideas there and one was nothing should be used only once (toilet paper
excepted <grin>.). Tht sort of product makes me scream about landfill
problems.

I do not doubt they are very fast and easy, but so is a damp towel over a
microwavable bowl with wetted veggies. Much cheaper too.

Then again, we arent microwave cookers. I have a really nice steamer (stove
top) and my ricemaker also has a steamer unit if I want to do it that way.
Normally I use the stove top unit which has 3 layers if I put them all in.

Supermarkets here have started stocking fresh vegetables packaged in
plastic "microwave pouches" in their produce sections. There might be a
pound or more of cleaned green beans, broccoli florets, etc. in just one
of these prepackaged bundles, far too much to cook at once for small
families as well as too much in a bag to steam evenly. The bag cannot be
opened without destroying it, so it isn't possible to parse the contents
into manageable sizes. Further, even though it's in the produce section
and by virtue of that "fresh," it's not possible to see just what's in
there so the quality of the vegetable is in question.

Better to just pick out the fresh veggies you want, clean them at home,
and steam them on the stove. Alternatively, nuke them in microwave-safe
bowls. Lose the bags. The fewer plastic bags in the trash, the better.

I think this came up in discussion (probably a thread drift) a month or so
ago. I just buy the Birdseye frozen vegetables (or veggie combos) that come
in a microwaveable bag. They only cost a couple of pennies more (if that, I
keep finding them on sale) than other frozen vegetables.

For fresh vegetables I just use a steamer basket over boiling water on the
stove top.

LOL I see your point. But unless I'm serving multiple people at a table
(heh, what table?!) I just portion out the vegetables onto the plate(s). No
bowls involved. Dining is a very casual affair around here.

I think it's a last gasp for the phthalate manufacturers, since
their product is being pulled from other markets (it has just
been banned in toys in California).

What is a 6.4 year culture?

Culture as in having lived in Japan for 6.5 years and now experiencing
culture shock. Although I find it somewhat hard to believe someone became
so totally immersed in the culture they completely forgot what it is like to
have lived in and shopped in the U.S. This is assuming carol is actually in
her 40's, which I believe she stated in one of her posts.

Birds-Eye offers an bag of veggies which requires you to cook
the whole thing, but I was thinking of the indiviual bags that
you fill as desired. I agree that if one usually serves in a
bowl, they're pretty pointless...
