Acupuncture Licensing in Calif Question, How long does it take ?

In California, a new applicant for licensing must have a four year Bachelors degree, must take one
unit of physics and one unit of organic chemistry, must graduate from an accreditted FOUR year
acupuncture program AND that person needs to be a resident of California for FIVE years before being
eligable for that license.

In other words, you cannot be licensed in less than 5 years, regardless of your credentials.
However, you might be able to fulfill the requirements within five year span.

Mind guiding me to where this information comes from? I could not find any reference to the five
years of residence in the California acupuncture board's web site.

I don't know the licensing rules, but I know there was an acupuncture licensing scandal about 10
years ago in California. The gist of it, as I recall, was that "outsiders" were takng the "boards"
in place of prospective acupuncturists in some cases. It naturally made the front page of the San
Francisco Chronicle. There might have been more involved & I don't remember reading how it ended. So
maybe they tightened up the licensing requirements as a result of that.
