3 piece crank question

Yeah, pictures,and tell your friend to get off the crack. Maybe you would have better luck if you took the bike to the shop. I have yet to find any difference in european and oriental standard crank bolts, the pacific was more likely made n the orient.

The crank looks like a standard square taper bottom bracket axle design. These have 2 major forms of crank arm attachment, one being a through bolt and the other using a nut. The latter style has a threaded shank coming out of the square taper.

While pedal threads are different for the sides (left-handed for the left crank, right for the right), there is no reason for the same on the cranks since there is no relative motion.

my bike has a threaded shank coming out of the left side like you just mentioned

Then you need a nut,not a bolt.Take it to a bike shop.They should have a whole drawer full of old ones. If you rode that crank with a loose or missing bolt,the arm may be buggered and will never stay tight.
