  1. Hi All,
Whats the best way to prepare to be able to run 2 miles in 20 minutes on a
treadmill in a week ? Currently I'm stuck at 1.88 miles in 20 minutes at max
effort. Should i practice slower but longer runs? Shorter and faster runs
over the next few days or something else? Thanks for any help!

    Something else.

  3. You're trying to get to a 10-min. mile, which is 6 mph. You're at about
5.6 mph with your 1.88 mi. in 20 minutes. Try pushing it up to 5.7
tomorrow, 5.8 the next day and so on. This shouldn't be too hard.

Why do these people come in and want to make a difference in a week??!!?
Have you EVER seen a training plan that short. Increasing speed
requires first increasing aerobic base, then adding muscle speed on top
    of that. That takes time.

It would be good to know what your training level is now, and how
frequently and long your run. I think you should be running at least
5 times a week, especially at that short distance. Heck you may even
go to 2 a days for about three days, then taper down and rest the
    day before the run.

Thats the best I can offer.

    Thanks John
It was my maximum yesterday but Ive been improving each week for the last
few weeks and see a ton of room for improvement. Breaking 2/20 is a short
term personal goal that I want to reach ASAP

Sorry, but it does take about 2 weeks for any workouts to appear as
    increased performance ability.
Generally, my advice is to mix it up - do longer slower workouts, and
workouts of multiple short/fast intervals. Don't work out at the same
intensity every day - make the longer/slower runs easier. And plan further
ahead next time - like 4-10 weeks to make minor to moderate improvments in
    performance.

My guess is that they are suddenly confronted with having to pass some
sort of a fitness test for their job (police, military?). Either they
weren't aware that they had to take a test or they just assumed that it
would be so easy that they never trained until it was too late to make
    much of a difference.

With 1 week to train, I'm not sure how much you can do, if anything.
Maybe you're right about "tapering." Maybe just mentally preparing to
gut it out for 20 minutes is the best you can do. Set the T-Mill for 10
minutes miles and don't fall off the back.
