Helen GA is up in the mountains, not too far from many of the spots.
Plenty of cabins or condos for rent. Also good bars with plenty of
beer.

Gainesville, Lake Lanier area might also be a good staging area, close
to major highways, close to the mountain stages close to more beer.

Not sure when the route will be posted, will have better
recommendations then.

Anything close to Dahlonega would be good. There is great riding right out
of the area and many of the climbs are the same as TdG. Helen is a great
area to consider as well as Blood Mountain has cabins at the top of Neels
Gap.

Put your base in Dahlonega. All of the climbs except for Ft. Mountain
are accessible from there. There is a century every year that includes
most of the major climbs, and depending on what you want to do, you can
do the whole 6 gaps in one day easily, or break it up into 3 gaps on
consecutive days. Brasstown can be included as a detour from either the
6 gap or 3 gap option. We have many folks who do 8-10 gaps in one day,
especially the brevet riders so you can get in as much as you want.
Also, you may want to check out Aska road which has some tough rollers
and is sometimes used by cyclists/TdGA to get from Ellijay to Dahlonega
and parts east. If you reserve now, prices are probably not too bad.
The other options would include Helen, GA and Ellijay, GA as a base of
operations. Helen can get a bit crowded, but you are not far from
Hogpen Gap which many consider second only to Brasstown in toughness.

If you are going to ride any of the southern stuff, like the Columbus
area/Pine Mountain, it is an easy drive from Atlanta.

If you decide to watch the race from Brasstown, leave early and either
ride up or walk. The shuttles are not dependable.
