Hi Folks,

New to the sport and love it. 1 month in and I'm riding 10-15 miles before work.

I ride for 3 days, take a day off, and ride 3 more. My day off consist of rest and some stretching.

I have committed to ride in a fund raising event this fall.

The ride is 25 miles.

How do you suggest I train for the ride from now leading up to the event?

Then what you probably want to do is get some longer rides in on the weekends. Rule of thumb for beginners is a 10% volume increase every week, iirc. To get that done, you could make every ride 10% longer, or you could split it up a bit. If the average four day cycle has 30-45 miles, shoot for 33-50 miles next week by keeping all the weekday rides the same, and bumping the weekend ride to 13-19 miles.
Mostly, just get out there and enjoy it!

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I appreciate the knowledge.
10%/week is certainly doable and/or extending it on the weekends.

If you have time enough to do it before your event, you might try building up to riding 30 to 35 miles on one of your weekend rides.

If you can ride 30 to 35 miles without too much difficulty, then riding that 25 mile event should be a lot of fun.

My Monday thru Friday rides have been increased from 10 to 12 miles.

The past two saturday's I bumped up to 20 miles. This weekend I worked too hard on a few hills and my hamstrings were sore for a few days.

However, the 10% increase each week looks like it's going to work well.

Thanks again.
