  1. 7/8/9/10 speed, Shimano/Campy/Sram, road/MTB/cyclocross/touring/commuter, etc. doesn't matter.

What gear range cogset do you use most often? (Or pick the range closest to yours)

For me it's always been 12-25 that gets the most use.

I've been trying to find an 11/23 ultegra. Supergo is backordered, but that is what I will be going with. The 12/27 I have on now will go on my extra wheel for use on my stationary trainer. 😉

  3. no idea

Big one in the front...second smallest in the back
    That's all i know

    Aaron

  4. Gee Aaron, you're so like...kewl. 🙄

  5. 11-23 is what I have on there, campy 10. Do they make anything smaller, I never use the 21 or 23. Where do you buy a 11-19?

  6. Felt: 12-25
Merida MTB with the slicks, 8 speed 11-30 & 28-38-48

When I can get a 10 speed Ultegra for the Felt, I will change to 12-27 for training with 25mm low (85) pressure tyres and 12-23 for racing with 23mm high (120+) pressure tyres.

  7. 11-21, ONLY gear to ride! 😉

And yes, I do have quite a few hills around where I live ........... :p

  8. I started off on a 12-21, but switched after a few years to a 12-23 because I started riding more and more in central PA. My most recent overhaul saw a switch from this to 12-27 when I went to 9-sp, because as I've gotten older, I've become acclimated to a higher cadence. Where I used to spin at 60-70rpm, I'm now spinning 80-90, so the new gears seem more suited to my riding style. Curiously, my average speed on long rides (50mi and over) has increased 1-2mph sice the change.

  9. Had an 11/21 for a year switched to a 12/27.The only flat in this area is still kind or rolling hills called Dolly Parton Parkway. Its the flattest section of road we have. 😕 There is something not right about that.

Yep!" Dollywood" I am about 20 minute from their parking lot. Good riding if you like mountains but the traffic is hell.

    13 -25 for normal and 13 - 28 for the mountains : alternate wheels ( and here we have mountains , cat 1 )

You need an 11-20 straight block. 11-19 would only be a nine speed. 😉

Oh no you don't. They're either little... or you are. :-)

  17. I use 12-23 because I like my 15-16-17 to be one tooth difference. I have tried an 11-23 but I find I miss the 16.

Now if the compact road cranks get more affordable, a 11-21 looks like the best.

Almost never use the 21 as it is ...... unless it is a 10% + grade.

Because I am near a "valley," each ride I do locally has at least 2-4 miles of climbing in it.

Not any brutal Cols, but still no real long flat sections.

And I'm NOT small ... currently 195 lbs and 6'-1" ........... I've just always been a decent climber ........ kind of a natural at it.

Back in the day (when I was racing 7 years ago and weighed 170 lbs) I actually ran a 42 up front with a 11-21 8-speed. And I'd ride 40 mile rides along Skyline drive in Virginia without using the 21 .........

I'm not nearly as fast at it anymore, but I can still climb consistantly now that I'm back into cycling again.

  19. Weisse Luft -

I know what you mean with the 16. It's right where I need to be often times, and if I don't have it I get [censored]. 😉 I'd rather go without an 18 than a 16.

IDEA! Buy Campy 10 and you won't have that problem!

  20. I notice that the Pro's use a 25 for training. In my younger days I thought 21 was as low as you need (I had a 42 small chain ring). Now that I realize that you don't have to go anaerobic on every hill I find it more interesting to try and keep my heart rate at a resonible rate and try and spin up the hill.
