I only seem to come here to ask questions at the moment ๐
Anyway, 15 feet of recumbent chain needs some love and attention
It's a two edged sword, the long chain. It will lose you some
efficiency and gives a lot more to take care of, but OTOH the chainline
on derailleurs isn't so angled at the extremes so less chain wear, and
with 3 times as much it'll only effectively take a third of the crunge
at any point. Since a lot of the transmission is up a ling way from the
splash zone you get less [censored] on it to start with, and that effect is
enhanced by the chain tubes on the GH in any case.
I'm still on my first chain(s) after 3 years on the SMGT, and it looks
fine. I just give it a good dose of GT-85 and wipe off the excess
(about 30 seconds work, you have to be so lazy you wouldn't even have a
bike not to bother with that!), and despite Simon B's assertion that
GT-85 will rot your chain it seems to be doing Just Fine with that and
nothing more. And I imagine the council here use rather more salt in
the winter than they do down your way.
I think Kinetics sells both the Lubmatic and the Scottoiler so you may
get some good pro/con info from Ben. But I find a can of lube and a bit
of rag is plenty for mine and isn't intrusively awful to do.
Pete.
