POWERADE
A classic case of ''style over content''. The pull up sucker thing
that you drink from (I'm sure it has a technical name) sits atop a
canister of azure blue liquid. The blue suggests that a level of science has
gone into this drink that is beyond my intelligence - but the fact is, this
drink is flat, stagnant, looks like antifreeze and tastes of nothing more than
cheap, sickly, melted iced lollypops. On closer inspection I noticed the drink
was made by Coca-Cola (You know, the outfit that bottled impure tap water in
the UK and peddled it as some kind of Natural Spring Water).Well, if ``Coke
adds life'' this [censored] will add nothing more than a bluey tint to your [censored].

sickly sweet, and doesn't seem to have the useful aspects of Gatorade
and such (I drink SISU's Hydrade, which works great for me and comes in
two flavors; one tastes like your own sweat, the other tastes like
someone else's sweat. It's amazing how good either tastes after some
hard riding) . . . where was I? Oh yes. As I learned the hard way (and
had confirmed by a friend's experience, the dark blue flavor of Powerade

Well there are some good pointers here.
http://www.pponline.co.uk/encyc/cycling.htm
I was trying to find out if there was a good ``mix it yourself'' sports drink.
Have you ever tried your half water/half fruit juice recipe with a small (say
2%) glucose addition? Grapefruit is out for me for medical reasons but I
presume orange would be equally efficatious?http://www.pponline.co.uk/encyc/0877.htm
Incidentally, the Gatorade 710 ml bottles fit great in a waterbottle cage and
can be had, replete with Gatorade, for $0.89 on special which is sure cheaper
than standard water bottles if you aren't too worried about lookin ``cool''
and you don't feel so bad about lobbing one of them at Taxi Drivers and other
Road Hogs 🙂But I'm losing faith in medical/scientific research. It seems that for every
beneficial practice, someone else pops up and says it is harmful. -

well as Gatorade.I sometimes use fruit juice like heather, but usually grape juice.
But the problem with that is that grape juice can really stain clothes
-- gotta be careful. Also, sad to say most fruit juices are no cheaper than stuff like
Powerade and Gatorade. (Koolaid can be cheaper than them all)If this fruit juice or the "ades" were regularly as gasoline, that'd
be good.JT

Has anyone tried the new Koolaid sports drink? I've seen it advertised but
haven't seen it or tried it yet.I don't know about anyone else, but Cytomax is pretty gross. THe lemon
flavor tastes like bongwater with lemon lifesavers dissolved in it. -

suggest. My breakfast and auxilliary Clif bar are for energy, I mostly
look to liquids for water and a few minerals, not energy. I've tried
this < http://www.paklyte.com/ > and find it works quite well. -
I use 1 part apple juice to 3 parts water for a starter. Carry powered
Gator ade and mix on the longer rides. Have found a bottle full of water,
a couple tea spoons of lemon juice, teaspoon of sugar and a pinch of salt
works well and is way cheap with no chemical coloring. I use only water
for short two hours outings.Ken

was new to my country and offered to help wash dishes after dinner.
We had one of thoese little bears of honey near the sink and she
assumed it was dish soap. She cleaned all the dishes with it by
scrubbing hard and the reported "Soap in the US does not work very
well."More related to bike racing is that when I was in college and short on
cash I used to take honey packets out of my dorm's cafeteria and mix
that with water for riding. Not ideal, as honey is pretty sweet for
the amount of calories you get, but it worked better than water alone.JT
