my church. I don't know if you have of heard of Dustin Kelm already but
this site says a bit about him:

people together and put on a show and then give a message afterwords.

  6. I don’t care to see your post on christianity in forums for unicycling.
You seem to infect every facet of our lives with your nonsensical fables
and inane morals. Say what you will about me, I’m not bitter and I have
not been let down in life… I choose to view and understand life through
reason, not outdated texts written by men to control other men and
especially women. God is dead. If the human race is to progress we must
dump your outdated codes. I speak not only of christianity (which I
detest the most for its ability and intent to manipulate, poison and
strip identity on a widespread scale) but islam, judaism and all the
like. god is great bla bla bla. god loves you bla bla bla. You don’t
    know that. I don’t know that. Just try to think for yourselves;
    please….the world would be a much better place!!! Religion is a crutch;
a grownup for grownups. For the adults: question what you have chosen to
believe and why. For the children: You play the most important roll in
all this. Question what you are told. Adults lie! Most of the time they
don’t even know themselves. Read. Take care all. I hope I upset some of
you out there as you have upset me constantly. You hide behind a curtain
in our society that makes it difficult to confront you, but I don’t care
anymore. And I hope that others out there who believe just as I do will
now consider speaking out. Next time someone brings up religion, simply
tell them to keep it to themselves. Good day.

No, Thomas, you didn't upset me. But you have created a great need in
my heart to pray for you. I promise that I shall.

I, too, am a Christian who would love to belong to a church that has
people riding around before (or during) a service! Long live the

  10. Two things: (1) don’t pray for me and (2) thinkuniking, you missed the
point. You say you don’t care what other people do, it’s their
prerogative….well it affects your everyday life!!! You honestly think
that local, state and governmental laws aren’t influenced by their moral
codes? And these laws are not in the best interest of ALL despite what
you may think. Science is also affected. Look into it. What do you say
about the radical muslim fundamentalist. They are just doing their thing
right? Until a bomb blows off your legs and kills you mom and dad…all in

  12. "Celebrate the life we live in….not the prospects of an afterlife."

True... I don't beleive in "building a futur" (on a personnal level)
because the future never comes. "what about tommorow? isin't that the
    future?"
    "yes, but are we tommorow?"
    "umm,no?"
    "tommorow will we be tommorow?"
    "umm, no?"
    "exactly"

but don't you think that there's something more to living than just
    rejoicing in material goods?

Since this life really has no apparent goal or meaning, I picture it as
a waiting room, something in between other things...catch my drift?

  13. Thomas, you strike me as a militant agnostic: "I don't know and you
don't ethier!" Just chill, having a born-again Christian President
sucks, but hopefully he'll be out soon.

I am an oppurtunistic agnostic. If there's an afterlife, I don't really
feel like being screwed because I was arrogant enough to think that
there wasn't. But, since there's also a good chance that this is all I
get, I make no attempt to limit my life by following all biblical laws
and losing 2 hours of every Sunday of my life. Not to mention that
technically I'm a dysfunctional Jew, so I make no attempt to waste every
Saturday of my life. I heard a story from my Orthodox great uncle: It
was the Sabbath, and his wife's orthodox sewing group was just relaxing
and talking about stuff. Thern, one of the women's baby accidentally hit
the radio and turned it on full blare. Since they were all orthodox
Jews, they couldn't even talk about technology. So they had to act like
the radio wasn't there, and couldn't turn it off. Finally, a non-Jew
neighbor complained aboujt the racket and turned it off. They thanked
him graciously the next day, explaining the predicament.

I never want to be landed in a predicament like the one above, so I
choose to honor the religous laws that I deem to be moral. I don't care
what I eat with my milk and chicken 😉. It just doesn't matter.

    Later all.

  15. Hey--

I come from the rock climbing world, a community big enough to
accomodate and welcome all creeds and orientations, including ranters,
    moralists, hellions, angels and [censored].

Like they say in climbing, at the bottom of the cliffside, all folks
cast off as equals. And once you jump on the Uni and start down a grim
single track -- or simply peddle down the road -- all the talk, beliefs
and opinions fade away -- and that's the grace of it.

  16. No, I don’t argue just to argue…and I don’t attack you because you don’t
support my view. While you speak for “simple christians” , you forget
that fundamentalist christian have and do exist. Fundamentalism is a
revival movement the seeks to revitalize a faith to its purest form. In
doing so people are opressed, hurt and killed. While this draws the most
attention, it is the simple folk you defend that are the most dangerous.
While not posing a immediate threat like a gushing wound in your abdomen
that will kill you by exanguination; it is more of a slow cancer that
goes undetected for the most part. Slowly it eats away and poisons the
organism undetected until the flare ups and acute symptoms must be delt
with (just like fundamentalist movements throughout history). I use
horrible imagery because it is appropriate. Look at the history books.
This faith you see as “cool” is nothing but a tool. For what you ask.
Control. The name of christ has been a justification for the slaughter
and rule of people throughout time. Look at the Spanish conquest in
Latin and South America for instance (just one in a myriad of examples).
All infidels who would not accept god and country (who was doing the
divine work of course) were killed without a second though….sound
familiar guy? Its going on right now in the world…and at this time in
history it comes from the Middle East...I think you know what I'm
talking about. So while you speak of simple christians, just know that
there are no god motivated genocidal movements at this time…but hey,
there’s always the future. Just look to the past. The cancer grows and
recedes, but always remains. Just whose turn is it now and whose next?
Please, just think a bit. And just know that I AM NOT spreading hate or
intolerance...religion already does that for us. Lets end it.

  17. Whoah hold on folks.

I'm an atheist and a secularist, but I believe that people are entitled
to hold religious beliefs as long as they don't expect me to play by
    their rules.

BUT, I must say that it was entirely predictable that if someone posted
something overtly religious in this forum, then someone else would take
a pop at them, and a row would start.

This is a unicycle forum. Please, let's not discuss religion or
politics here, because it will only spoil things.

There's a time and a place. This is neither.

  19. Somewhat off-topic in an already off-topic thread, but this thread is
oddly timely in my own thinking. I belong to a Unitarian Universalist
congregation and am an atheist. One of the ongoing debates in our
community is among believers and non-believers, the different language
that we use and what appropriate forms of expression are. A number of
the atheist camp are adament about not using the word god or referring
to worship in our community. In my view, while I agree with their world
views, I find their tactics to be contrary to the fundamental beliefs of
our community that we all must find our own paths and do so in a sharing
    and mutually encouraging way.

Anyway, as a result of all this I have come to the conclusion that there
are such people who might be labeled fundamentalist atheists.

Thomas, does the "ma" in maroastedpeanuts have some significance?

  20. The Ma is actually part of my name…maroastedpeanuts was a nickname I had
as a kid. I know this is all off topic from the fun of unicycles…but it
is fun in itself…is it not? And it also needs to be said. We are all
unicyclist and part of a larger community. So who are we? Hopefully this
thread provides a bit of a window. When you get together with your
cycling buddies (unicycle, road bike or mountain bike) you cant always
talk about the latest handmade frame or new carbon fiber seat base or
even which trials unicycle to buy…these are important issues that
everyone faces. In response to previous replies…I’m not a militant
atheist. In fact, I find the logic of atheism just as flawed as a
fundamentalist christian, muslims or other groups. Two opposite ends of
the spectrum…same intent. Agnostic simply states that I don’t know, you
don’t know….not TERE IS NOTHING! YOU ARE ALL WRONG!! This does not mean
that I hold the same view as gerblefranklin who stated: “I am an
opportunistic agnostic. If there's an afterlife, I don't really feel
like being screwed because I was arrogant enough to think that there
wasn't.” This [censored] has been pressed into our skulls from such a young
age that this mentality results. I was in limbo there for a while too.
But arrogance? You think there is a god up there judging you like
that?!?!?! Know what, if there is then I don’t want to be in HER
“heaven”. A bit ago (before my current state of mind) I was witnessed
to (several times) by born again christians…what a painful experience
and I wish no one to be subjected to such atrocities…but it will
continue occur because that’s what they do!! Their goal is to show you
the path. How nice right? A socially inept individual trying to show me
the path to enlightenment. No thanks. One man told me that in the eyes
of god it didn’t matter if I gave to charity or was kind to fellow
humans and animals…I was dammed to hell unless I took jesus into my
heart. So this is their god that is up there? Doesn’t matter how you
behave as long as you agree to suck jesuses d*ck..then you’ll be granted
a spot in the glorious heaven surrounded by all the other oppressive,
but enlightened born again christian…sounds like [censored] hell to me.
Hey, I think I just stumbled onto something. Sure, sure, you say that
not all are this extreme. But you’ll be surprised what a few nuts can
archive when times are tough and there is a lack of Humanistic
solidarity…again look to the past..or better yet the present (the Middle
East anyone?). Again, I know what your responses to that may be, but
chew on that for a bit. Well, it’s been fun. But I have to go do stuff
now. Hope this thread lingers on for a bit…let’s see what people have to
say. And yes, people should have the right to pursue their own paths,
but it has consistently been the case that religion inhibits those
paths. Don’t think so? Look all around you. One final note, we are
nothing but fancy animals. People like to think otherwise. The purpose
for your dog, cat fish ect. being here is the same as yours...to pass
    those little ribonucleic acids around.
