Why are the riders allowed to get rid of their helmets today?
This may be a silly question to some, but my wife and I started getting
interested in the Tour a few years ago and trying to learn and understand
the rules.
It makes the race so much more enjoyable.

ThanksI believe they can take their helmets off on uphill climbs (which is an
oxymoron, I know).--

Is it only the finish or any climb? (Obviously, they aren't going to dump
their helmets for a climb, but you never know -- they like to change bikes
a lot.)--

Also, helmets only became manditory two or three years ago. And if the
O.P. is really interested, this year, the tt helmets are required to
have some foam too. -
