You may want to check out www.bikefriday.com. Trek makes 2 models as well.
Some people really like them and claim they ride the same as a standard
bike. I still need convincing.

Maybe if you put a steering damper on it. And those 16" wheels like
potholes even less than standard sized wheels.

Dahon for travel.

They pretty much set the standard in everything folding, from the low-end
to the mid-range.
