  1. Sure, we need the rain badly. But last week and this week have been
filled with thunder, lightning, and rain at unpredictable intervals.

I'm not actually complaining about all that, though it can be
frustrating. My problem is the pressure changes. That's right.
Arthritis. My knees have been a misery all week. It's hard to think of
doing *anything* active when I feel this way. Seems like I spend my day
trying to bend, then straighten my knees in futile attempts to make the
ache go away. Pain relievers don't seem to do much, either.

    Bleh.

I imagine they'll only get worse as I get older.

I get an achy elbow and shoulder (from having been breaky), but what can you
do? At least you guys got some rain, we just get some lightning and it blows
on through. We need the rain really bad and the lightning could be starting
    fires. Yikes!

    Ewww!

Yeah, the rain is a blessing in its own way. I hope your lightning
stays well clear of burny things.

At least we're in Colorado. In Virginia, there was way too much crappy
    weather and consequent joint pain.

It's been the same deal here. It's hit, or miss, and lately, it's been
missing a lot. I've got the next three days lined up to ride, and the
    weather looks good.

Heh, of late, I've been landscaping for a living. I'm hurting regardless of
    the pressure.

    Good luck with that!

I'm going to see a Mike Doughty concert tomorrow night (Friday), then
have an appointment to check out a motorcycle Saturday, then some other
stuff ... I hope to get a ride in Sunday, though, assuming the weather
    cooperates.

Cool. You go to all the good shows!
Are you going to Roots/MMW/311? I'm considering making a trip down for that
one if I can find some camping (read - place to sleep for a few hours
without having to go to Denver) near there. Know of anything? I figure there
must be somewhere around Bailey or there's always the top of Kenosha (a bit
    further away).

I wasn't planning to go to that show -- should I?

Actually, scratch that. Some major expenditures on two-wheeled
transportation of the motorized kind have me thinking I should save my
    pennies for a bit.

Well, I don't know of any camping, but if Longmont isn't too far away,
mi futon es su futon. We have a guest room and everything.

Thanks, but it is too far away - I want to find something West of Morrison.
Should be good. Have fun at MD.

Thank your lucky stars that you don't have to get out and sandbag the rivers
around your property as people I know are doing tonight.
Winter here for sure, but the rain is torrential and everything is flooded.
Highways are closed and slips are blocking some highways too. On the
brightside, I _looked_ at the bike today and lubed the chain and it's warmer
than the snow and sleet we had last week....

Ugh. Thanks for reminding me that there's always someone out there who
    has it worse ...

There's a German saying my mom mentions now and again.

"Um gluecklich zu sein must du unter dich gucken."

(I'm sure I slaughtered the spelling.)

Anyway, it means, "If you want to be happy, look at the people worse off
    than yourself." Roughly.

    You can count on it.

Whenever I think to myself: hey, get away from work early, no kids sports
tonite, wife is off doing something, time for a bike ride. Oops, shouldn't
have said it out loud. Distant thunder crack, clouds settling in, arthritis
acting up, skys getting darker, alligator drops coming down, cloudburst.

Next time, have to avoid thinking about riding. Maybe a code phrase, I know,
substitute: mountain biking = cleaning out the basement.

Try that again - get away from work early, no kids sports, wife is
elsewhere, time for "cleaning out the basement". Result - sunshine, blue
    sky, 75 degrees. Arthritis: none.

I have to say I really enjoy "cleaning out the basement". Often.

That sounds like a euphamism all right ... but not for mtbing!

    what I mean." <wink wink, nudge nudge>

I always thought plumbing references were the best for that. Cleaning,
snaking, or even just checking the plumbing...
