I work in a bike store. The only riders I've seen buy toeclips there
are LWLCs and Retro-Grouch Kooks (RGKs). For the most part, the RGKs
are also LWLCs.
fwiw, here is the memory that makes me (a RGK i guess) go back to clips:
i was riding down a somewhat steep and rutted fire-road (slowly) when my
front tire slipped off into a rut and over the bars i went ... except, just
on instinct i somehow managed to yank both feet from the clips, swing my
arms up, head back, feet forward ... and land with a big thump on my feet.
(a rider coming up hill said "i give it 10 points for style"😉. i looked
back and my bike was like 10 feet behind me.
that happened back when everybody rode clips, and i kind of wondered if i'd
get that good with clipless, but i never did.
now, maybe you kids can do that on instinct with clipless, and not take that
endo on the head or shoulder, but i can't so i became a RGK(*).
* - not counting the broken wrist suffered with clipless.
