Slightly OT: Sunglasses. M-frames vs Half Jackets

You can change the lenses in M frames. Oakley even makes a
case for that holds the sunglasses and an extra lens.

I've used my M's for cycling for several years now. They're
simply incredible.

I know this doesn't really answer your questions, I just
wanted to put in my .02 about Oakleys. I've had 1 pair of
Frogskins, 1 pair of M frames, and 3 pairs of Jackets that
ended up with broken frames. All of the frames were
'crystal' (translucent colour) so that may be a
contributing factor.

The story I heard (not from Oakley) was that the plastic in
Oakley frames does not stand up well to the combination of
sweat and sunscreen. All of the cracks developed in the top
of the frames, just above one of the lenses, and the frames
had not been abused (sat on, stepped on, etc.) I've since
switched to Rudy Projects, and haven't had a problem since.
PLUS, if the lenses ever scratch, for any reason, Rudy will
replace them.

I'm not trying to disuade you from Oakleys, while they held
together, they were great sunglasses, just relating my
experiences.

How do the Half Jackets measure up for cycle use? I also
do a fair bit of running and they would be used for that
as well.

You can change the lenses on M frames. Do not get the type
that have folding sides like regular glasses. I was breaking
one pair/year due to lots of little cracks as described
below. At first, Oakley would replace them for free, then
they started charging $15. I finally got mad at them and
sold all my lenses.

I like the M frames better than the Half Jackets because
the latter have frames that create a blind spot in my
peripheral vision.

That said, I'm thinking about getting some of the non-
folding Ms again. The gray lens works really well in all
light conditions.

I'd heard rumours about Oakleys too. HOWEVER. I have not
found that to be the case in the two or three years I've had
my M-frames. In addition, Oakley has a first-rate
warranty/replacement policy. My daughter decided to remove
my M-frames for me one day, cracking the housing where the
bow (ear-piece) joins the main frame. I sent it back (got
contact info here in rbr in fact), paid a $15 handling
charge, and received new(?) frame (at least it looks and
acts like new). They've been great.
