  1. There is a new shop in town professing to serve 'steamed'
    burgers and cheeseburgers.

Am I just sheltered or have others experienced such?

I hope to hear your thoughts and wisdom as to flavor,
nutrition, etc., before I buy/try. Replys please.

Hmmmm... could it be some warped version of maidrites?

According to the Florida State Division of Hotels and
Restaurants, there's prolly still a few germs left to
    be killed.

They should therefore be breaded and deep fried in lard.

Didn't White Castle usta poke little holes in their square
burgers, claiming they griddled and steamed simultaneously?

They still do. 'Cept they now cost about 50 cents-sodium
    bromide is extra.

There was a story about 10 or 15 years ago in the Northeast
regarding a much older but not really that widespread
practice of making "steamed cheeseburgers" in diners.

I never tried one because, well, I ain't dumb, and if you
have raw meat in a patty and a grill, you're not grabbing
    for the steamer.

Stewing chickens can be steamed to overcome being touch and
lacking fat. If they managed to find hamburger that's still
tough after being ground, I shudder to think. If they are
trying to retain every gram of fat, well fat does intensify
the flavor and if they start with ultra-lean beef ...

Maybe the buns are steam baked. There are steam baked styles
    of bread that taste fine.

Yep - It's White Castle up north and the southern version is
Krystal. Tiny burgers, takes about 4 of them to make a
regular burger. Square buns and soft sauteed minced onions
on top. Regular condiments include a slice of dill pickle
    and mustard.

I can specify a completion penalty clause prior to my buy. I
    still need reason to try.

Skip the breading, use ground round, pound the burgers out
thin, slip them into deep hot peanut oil and cook them until
they float - you have a Dyer's hamburger from Memphis, TN.
🙂 No where near steamed, sorry. But a Memphis tradition for
    50-some years.
