Powerlink failure

I had one of those snap in replacement chain links go on me
a while back. Can't remember the make, whatever Halfords
sell (only bike shop open on a Sunday).

Yes. One failed on me uncatastrophically, and I ended up
reusing it. Until it fell off again going down some stairs.
I put it back on. Fell off again, this time in gravel. Found
it - put it back on. Fell off again. Found it and promptly
went home.

My roommate's PC-69 just plain snapped on him on a random
link. He weighs 170 and wasn't really cranking it...

I thought about it, but I didn't want to risk it. It may
have sent Scottie 'round the bend even further. I settled
for my 5% Club member discount.

You are the second person I've ever heard with a problem
with them. Still, it's a "Weakest Link" kinda thing.

Personally, I've always rivetted my chains, and I use mostly
SRAM PC-58s (despite the instructions saying you can't do
this, it works perfectly.)

The only chain I've ever broken was a Sachs M-41(ancestor of
the SRAM PC-48) on my Tandem that I pushed past its useful
life. Ended up pushing/scootering the thing 9 miles home.
