  1. While certainly not my hero I have to admire this guy's dedication, stats
    are cool too...

    Lance's coach, Chris Carmichael sent us these key stats for LA:

    Resting heart rate: 32-34 VO2ml/kg: 83.8 Max power at VO2:
    600 watts Max heart rate: 201 Lactate Threshold HR: 178 Time
    Trial HR: 188-192 Pedal rpm's during TT: 95-100 Climbing
    rpm's: 80-85, sometimes faster when attacking Average HR
    during endurance rides (4-6 hrs): 124-128 Average watts
    during endurance rides: 245-280 watts Training miles/hours,
    endurance rides: 5- 6 hrs / 100-130miles

    lol my stats:

    Age: 41 Resting HR 42 Max HR (running): 190 Max HR
    (cycling): 185 Lactate Threshold HR (running): now about
    165, when peaking 175 Lactate Threshold HR (cycling): now
    about 160, when peaking 170 Race Pace HR (Biathlon 5k run
    20k bike 5k run in 1:18) 176 Average HR during endurance
    runs (2-3 hours): 142 Average HR during endurance cycling
    (3-4 hours): 137 Recent benchmark training run: 8.4 miles on
    railroad grade in 1:16 @ HR 145

  2. Very funny you mention "not your hero" - I do admire all that he's overcome
    but he is not my hero anymore either. I really thought he was a great role
    model but with the divorce and after reading his book - I'm not so sure - he
    came off really "strange" in his book. But, I've never faced cancer so
    perhaps that's why I can't relate. - Linda

    I don't think it's just the cancer you can't relate to. Like
    you, I came away deeply impressed after reading "It's not
    about the bike" but also realised that there's no necessary
    correlation between "being a fantastic athlete who's
    overcome amazing adversity" and "being a nice guy".

    I strongly suspect that if you have what it takes to be a
    top athlete, your probably less likely than average to be a
    "nice" guy. Who was it who said "Nice guys finish last"?
