I DO live in San Diego. And the weather is wonderful!
Yesterday was my mother's 83rd birthday. She lives in the
exact center of Montana. After we chatted on the phone she
called me back to say, "I forgot to tell you that it's been
snowing here for two days." What can I say?

Our high temp went from 85 on Tuesday to 40 on Wednesday.
Today we've had a mix of rain and snow. It's supposed to get
into the 70's this weekend.

My local garden center has signs up among the annuals. They
say something like "To our transplanted California friends:
It is NOT SAFE to plant tender annuals before 5/30, no
matter how warm it gets."

Summer in Colorado on the "eastern plains" is usually quite
hot and dry but cools down as much as 20 degrees as soon as
the sun goes down. Nights are usually quite comfortable. A
light sweater is all that's necessary at night and in the
mountains, where it's usually cooler due to the altitude. I
have never seen it snow in July. :-)

When I went to school in Burlington, VT in the sixties, it
