You've got to provide material that is unique and will pull
people into your site. My own cycling stories make up only a
few pages of the total site, but because of the unique
content elsewhere, it seems to pull people in. For example,
if you type ("cycling stories" simon) into Google, my page
is the nr 1 hit, even above the BBC! This isn't due to the
cycling stories, but all the other stuff as well.

If I indulge in the egotistical craze of googling your own
name, my own name occupies the top 4 hits out of 3/4
million, so there must be some stuff on the site that pulls
people in. Good luck.

No, it is because your name appears in the URL, a huge
weighting is given to this by Google. If the BBC had a URL
with 'simon' in it, then that would change, reciprocal
links is the main factor and the BBC probably has more
than anyone.

Oh, don't spoil it! ;-) Seriously, if you type in (safety
videos motoring accidents), it's number one as well out of
over 47000 and my name is not used in the search at all, so
someone must be visiting it.

I mean, there are a lot of professional people making
safety videos about motoring accidents, so I'm hardly
likely to be nr 1 just for my single page, unless it's due
to the other stuff on the site.

Very nice site :-)

It's only really a hobby for me, so I'm not too concerned
about the number of visitors. It's interesting though to
note where bits of my site end up and that have been
nicked wholesale or even translated into Italian and
French! Some of my recordings ended up in the film
"Vanilla Sky" and in loads of rock band's songs and what
do I get out of it? Nowt ;-)

Once your sites up, register it on Google - that should do
the trick.. Also, use meta tags on the 'home' page for each
report to describe the content. The two to use are e.g.
<META NAME=DESCRIPTION CONTENT='Bicycle tour of Milton
Keynes. 2004'> and <META NAME=KEYWORDS CONTENT='England,
Milton Keynes, cycling, cycle, tour report'>

If others like your site, they'll add links to it and that
all helps too of course.
