Dear Group,
After finally getting around to finishing my cycle report,
1000km from Basel to Vienna, following the Danube. I am
now undecided whether to attempt to create my own home
page (I have a few other interesting trips that I could
put in) or send it to one of the many large websites out
there.

So question one. Which cycle websites get the most hits
and are in your wise opinion the best.
You can do a search in Google to see which cycle ride report
sites are the most popular.
Quoted message said:Question two . Can you earn any money i.e. selling it to a
web site?
Probably not - most, if not all are hobby sites. I don't
know if there any commercial cycling story sites, but I
suppose a magazine might pay for them.
Quoted message said:Question three . If I create my own home page, how could
I best “for free” advertise it, i.e. newsgroups which
ones etc?
You've got to provide material that is unique and will pull
people into your site. My own cycling stories make up only a
few pages of the total site, but because of the unique
content elsewhere, it seems to pull people in. For example,
if you type ("cycling stories" simon) into Google, my page
is the nr 1 hit, even above the BBC! This isn't due to the
cycling stories, but all the other stuff as well.
If I indulge in the egotistical craze of googling your own
name, my own name occupies the top 4 hits out of 3/4
million, so there must be some stuff on the site that pulls
people in. Good luck.
