Many thanks for taking the trouble to inform me of your
concerns with regard to BHIT. I have received a number of
similar letters, and can confirm that we have reviewed our
relationship with BHIT after discussion with DfT and most
recently with Dave Holladay of CTC.
We have supported BHIT for 2 years, initiated in response to
calls from the secondary school sector to offer some support
for casualty reduction initiatives to mirror our 6 year
pedestrian safety programme for primary school children.
In summary, we have agreed to a significantly lower donation
to BHIT for this year, have specified that this funding
should only be deployed for direct educational purposes, and
have specified that this will be the final year of support.
I am grateful to you for your comments. I hope that you are
reassured that we acted in good faith in agreeing to support
BHIT, and that we have responded appropriately to your
concerns and those of a number of others.
Yours sincerely,
Andrew Litchfield
