So when the vitamins are given to hyperhomocysteinemic individuals and cIMT falls, we know that the associated homocysteine drop wasn't caused by the cIMT drop in some way... But we still don't know that the cIMT drop was due to the homocysteine drop. The study seems to me to rule out causality in the direction of cIMT affects homocysteine, so it strengthens support to causality in the other direction.

Is it possible then with this interpretation that atherosclerosis itself may cause elevated homocysteine? If so, then the vitamins may be working through a completely different pathway than homocysteine metabolism, correct?
