If it's a "powerlink" then give it a clean and remove any
grit/dirt. Then with your thumbs and forefingers grab each
end of the powerlink, squeeze thumb and forefinger together
while at the same time pushing the ends towards each other.
Should open easily.

I always find it easier to use a rivet extractor rather than
doing battle with Sachs "easy links" or whatever they call
them! Maybe I've just not got the knack...

There is a knack. And if the knack fails there is always a
pair of pliers ;-)

they can be a bit tricky. My method is to shift onto the
smallest sprocket, shift the chain off the chainrings, pinch
the adjacent links together (so that the ends to the
powerlink are "exposed"😉 and then clamp it at an angle with
pliers such that you are pushing together the two ends of
the side plates that need to move inwards. Have a look at
pog.org.ukchain.jpgOpen ↗ if this isn't clear. This shows
the adjacent links being pinched and then the ends of the
plier jaws, in red, pushing the side plates (arrow indicate
the force being applied)

There's the problem. You've probably got a shimano knack
(tm) which isn't compatible with a Sachs knack...
