I need a bit of help in choosing a new bottom bracket for a Sugino GT double chainset. It's a non-low profile offering (which seemed to be very popular with Raleigh here in the UK, as it popped up on a lot of their training/'sports' machines in the late 80s), and definitely needs a longer BB axle than the Campag Mirage double on my road bike (with a 110mm BB). The BB of choice is likely to be the trusty Stronglight JP400, which comes in quite a few lengths. At a rough guess, the 119 or 122mm versions look to be most suitable, but if anyone can narrow things down further, this would be very welcome.

It's not in Sheldon's database, so I'd suggest sticking it on your road bike and seeing how far off the chainline is (assuming you'll have the same rear spacing and number of sprockets on the bike this is intended for).
Aren't Stronglight BBs ISO (Campag) taper? Sugino will use JIS, surely?

IIRC my Raleigh had a 115mm BB on with its Sugino GT. I recently replaced it with a Shimano one, perhaps the taper is not compatible but it hasn't fallen off in the last 600 miles of riding. If I remember tomorrow I'll measure the original for you. BTW if you want it you are welcome, the cups are a little pitted which is why I decided to change it but it is still servicable

As a double, a 113 or 115 JIT bb will work fine. Your Mirage is 111 ISO and that is ~107 JIT.

118mm, just measured my old one. BTW I have enough good enough parts to make a serviceable unit if you want it.
Thanks to all concerned for feedback. However, getting suitable rings to give the chainset a 38/48 set-up for cross may be more expensive than I thought, so it looks like I'll have to take a different course of action and see what else my bits box can come up with....

I have some Biopace 38 and 48 rings with 110 PCD, used and I'm not sure if they are good enough or not. I have never used them, they were in the box of bits I was given when I bought the Pink Peril. Yours for twice the price of postage. The offer on the BB still exists too.
