Is it all just about a chance to scream at someone from a perceived position of power? I'd understand if they were frustrated from being stuck behind me, but this is a low- traffic four lane (parking outer lanes) road. FWIW it tends to be kids in trucks. *sigh* And the main place it happens is at the intersection right before I get home, so the ride often ends with a sour taste in the mouth.

Actually, in my neighborhood a lot of the yellers are black, but then, so is much of the population so it's not that remarkable.

You could carry a gun shoot their tires out to make a statement. You would end up in jail, but it would get some press. That way people will respect cyclists more on the roads and think twice. If you do this, thanks in advance.

Because their hands have gotten so grossly obese (along with the rest of their bodies) that they can't do the middle finger gesture anymore.
One day last summer, a bunch of kids yelled at me on my ride home from work. The road is fairly busy but I am responsible and keep to the side. I have been riding in heavy traffic since I was 15 so I am accustomed to it. I'm cruising along at about 22mph and one of the kids sticks his head out the window and yells at me. I usually ignore this behavior and it does not really bother me anymore. I am more concerned on getting home in one piece so I tend to pay more attention to the traffic around me. It turns out that I pass them while they are waiting several cars back for a red light to change. The kid yells at me again as I pass. When he passes again there was not one word shouted at me. I figure two attempts with no response has made him give up his attempts to harass me. We could have gone on passing each other but my turn was coming up and I wanted to get home
Moral of the story: Usually, ignoring these jackholes is the best thing to do..

At least a couple of my club members have been known to discreetly carry concealed (with permits). That may be unusual among the (mostly liberal minded) cycling community, but some do.
