  1. Hi folks!

Looks like a really good, supportive group we have here.

I am, unfortunately, a lapsed Weight Watcher. I lost about
40 pounds last year to fit into the wedding gown, then got
married, and went PFFFFT. Haven't been able to get back to
going to the gym consistently, haven't been journaling or
really paying attention to points, and have
    been...er...supplementing my fairly healthy brought-from-
home lunches with unhealthy soups and brownies from the
Treats shop in my new office building. *sigh* The stupid
shop is just too handy, I think the only solution is to not
to bring money with me to work.

In short, I've put on about 20 pounds since my September
wedding. The only good habits I managed to keep were
drinking gallons of water, and taking my coffee with milk
instead of cream. How discouraging, after how hard I worked
to get the weight off in the first place.

But anyhow, today is a new day! I've stayed in my point
range, went to the gym, and basically been good all
    day! Yay me!

I look forward to hearing about your successes, and learning
some new low-point recipes to kick-start my program. I've
recently discovered a corn chowder one if anyone likes that
sort of thing. It makes about four servings at five points
per serving, and involves skim milk, skim milk powder, etc.

    KD

    PS - I haven't gone to meetings since last year..what is a
flex point anyhow? That's new since I was there.

  2. Welcome KD! Julie

Congrats for coming back!! Are you going to the meetings or
are you going from your old books? Either is great!! Flex
points are set up so that you have a set number of points a
day and then a weekly allotment of 35 flex points. Post
    here lots!!

Welcome! Quite a few of us are lapsed returnees, so you are
not alone! As I'm in the UK, the flex point system is a
mystery to me too. We just have a set number of points, and
    can earn more for exercise.

It sounds like you are on the right track with the points
and the water: flex points or whatever don't really matter -
just use what works for you! If you can get to meetings,
they will be successful as they were before, and you will

  8. HI KD and welcome back. I can relate to your plight. 23 years ago when I
walked down the isle, I was 135. For one day!!!!!
All the honeymoon and playing house with cooking etc packed the weight on
quickly. Hang in there and you will have it off in no time.
As for the flex point, you will love them. I was a product of the food
exchanges and it was hard to make the change at first. It is great to have
the flexablity to have high point meals and not feel you have derailed
    completely.
    Goood luck and welcome back.

Here's a short synopsis of the USA program by Joyce -

How many points you can eat is only based on your current
weight, as you lose weight those points allowed will
decrease (logic is that your body will need less to
operate). At 183 pounds and based on the new US flexpoints
system, you will have a set point target of 24. In addition
to this you are allowed 35 flexpoints to be used throughout
the week ... as well as any activity points you earn on a
particular day. When your weight drops to 175, your target
drops to 22 points ... weight reaches 150, target once
again drop to 20 points. 3 servings of dairy of recommended
per day, 5 servings of fruit and veggies, minimum of 6
    glasses of water.

To calculate food and activity points, I love this computer
    desktop calculator ...
    zythra.compoints.exe

The basic plan is easy. Eat at least your minimum daily
number of points. Points do not carry over from day to day.
You are allotted 35 weekly flexpoints to be used at your
discretion ... can divide them up and use daily (would be an
additional 5 points per day) or save them and use them for a
special occassion during the week. Activity points are
earned based when exercising, but can ONLY be used on the
    day they are earned.

If you can afford $15/month, the online ww program might be
a great thing for you to look into. There is lots of
information available, as well as the food point database
    and journaling system.

Joyce WW starting weight: 228.8 - 2/5/02 current weight:
    133.3 Lifetime: 4/4/03

Please note that if you live in onther countries (UK,
Australia, NZ, Europe), the Points plans are different. The
UK and Australia/NZ calculate points based on saturated fat
and total kilojoules. Most of Europe calculates based on
total fat and total kilojoules. The desktop calculator above
can handle all of these programs.

  13. Hi KD,

I posted under the same title a few days ago (Starting

on program. I have posted pictures of myself when I was 8
pounds away from goal on my fridge, and that has kept me

  15. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

To answer some of the questions, I am not currently going to
meetings. Time and budget do not allow it at this moment, I
may get back there some day...no doubt about it, they do
help! Fortunately I kept all my books, so I'm back to
    following the plan.

I'm at the end of Day Two now, and I have to say I've done
quite well. Wasn't easy...I was feeling hungry between meals
and those brownies were calling, but I dodged the brownie
bullet and will do it again tomorrow!

Flex points - so your daily point goal is probably lower,
and you have some extra to spend when you need it, is that
    the way it works?

Next question - the weights (at least I assume they are
weights) that some put in their signature. Would they
represent starting weight, current weight and goal?

For me, I was about 240 when I first started following the
program (using a friend's books), and got down to 220. Then
I joined myself and got to 203 for my wedding day. Ideally
I'd like to be about 175 or so - I am a 5'11" woman, and
have what I would NOT consider a small frame! I was once 152
when I was in my late teens, and was too thin (had a broken
jaw, wired shut for two months, very effective diet plan).
Right now I'm at about 218 or so. I never did crack the 200
mark on my last try, that's my next major hurdle.

    Keep the support coming! 🙂

  16. Here's the chart showing the new daily points. Then you get
35 FlexPoints to use or not use. Another difference from the
old program is that you have to use your Activity points the
day they were earned. No more banking of APs.

  17. KD if you are 218 lbs you would get 26 points a day plus any exercise
points that you may only use that day (or not) or lose forever. On top
of that you get 35 Flex points for the week. Laura our resident excel
expert wrote a excel spreadsheet that tracks your points for you (you
should enable the macros when prompted):

    home.att.netflexjournal2.xls

I hope this helps with the new program, everything else
is mostly the same. Congrats on dodging that ol'
    brownie bullet!!

  18. Just as an FYI ... the flexpoint system at ww was only
introduced a few months ago. There are many of us here that
found it just didn't work for us, and many that felt it
worked much better for them. If you are more comfortable on
the old program, don't feel pressured to make the change.
Everyone here pretty much does whatever works for them.
