Throwing money at anything will never solve the problem. The issue is to pick those that have the

Throwing money never does any good - but the funding has to be there to be used in the right way.
Over the long term, funding only goes to medical projects that have widespread popular support, and
that support is a result of education and advocacy. Look at AIDS and cancer funding versus the
activism for both those causes.

Well, I agree with you that drugs are not the future (even if I disagree with your stance on
corporations - business and profit are absolutely essential to turning research into medicine, at
least until someone invents the selfless human being). Regenerative medicine is the future, from
which cures will come for the conditions that could never be cured by drugs. That mouse cure for
diabetes is a stem cell and regenerative medicine affair - you'll note that to cure a mouse of
diabetes took considerably less than a decade to go from 'hey, there are these things called stem
cells' to 'mouse cured of diabetes.'
So I think your timescale is a bit off for the science side of things. However, getting FDA approval
for any procedure that works now in mice or in early human trials could easily take a decade and the
better part of a billion dollars...which is why medical science can seem so slow even at a time when
the pace of actual research is blisteringly fast.
