  1. Trail, Feb 2004, p. 13, bottom right corner [Just landed on my doormat]

    Clarification

In our December issue (on sale 10 November - 10 December), we ran an article ‘Do dead toes scare
you?' featuring routes in the Lairig Ghru, and on Stac Pollaidh and Great Gable. Our aim was to
highlight routes which would be challenging but without some of the potential hazards associated
with big summits in the month during which the issue was current. We did not mean to imply that it
does not snow in the Cairngorms in winter, that these routes never ice up, or that ice axe and
crampons should not be carried whenever snow or ice is lying. However, we failed to make these
points sufficiently clearly in the article, and we are happy to do so now.

  3. I have to say people are being a bit nannyish about this . Presumably most readers had worked out
perfectly well that it can snow in Scotland in the winter and aren't the dunces various people in
this NG and elsewhere have made out. The point of the article - which I looked at in passing, though
admit didn't pore through properly - was that there is stuff to do that might be less daunting than
full-on Cairngorm 4000s or whatever. Perhaps the magazine didn't dumb down enough for some people's
    taste - but really !

I quite like the magazine and buy it occasionally as it suits my type of stuff better than proper
climbing magazines - even though most of my hillwalking is somewhat more sporting than what the
    magazine generally covers.

I can't be arsed arguing over such a trivial matter, fact is, or should I say Google records
previous statements from yourself as "Trail [censored]". I've been called worse, it doesnt' mean I
should simply accept it. Don't assume everyone takes it with a pinch of salt. The point being is not
that you called me a [censored], you implied I could not get any dumber. Remember? Be more careful when
you fling your insults, some people don't like it. End of discussion.

Yep - urw didn't exist then. An expedition was being organised - and I said how could I recognise
any of them - as I did not want to walk round the pub saying to people 'urc' as it sounded like
'youarsey' - and risk being beaten up. It caught on from there. BTW the expedition never took place.
However, a 'youarsey' T shirt was produced (I've still got mine) - and I have come across a couple
    of others wearing them since.

Trail publishers actually. Horrid rag - got very good reasons for loathing it - not just style,

Correct - a convention that has been around for ages - in this case a ref to the old name of that
    publication.

If you're not the editor or owner of "Trail Wa*ker" magazine you need to calm down and reread this
    thread. It's not about you.

Richard was not having a go at you, KRO. Trail gets a varied reaction and gets referred to as Trail
Wa*ker quite frequently. Not so much in this forum, granted. Its derived from the fact that some of
the more pleasant people in the dangly community like to refer to us as wa*kers ( we just call them
c*nts ;-) ). Rich hardly qualifies as a prime agitator given his presence in both the wa*king and
    climbing groups.

In reply to a post of yours. He was referring to the MAGAZINE. Admittedly he missed out the
capitalisation of Wa*ker, but If he had meant you were a wa*ker he would have put a comma after
Trail and another after wa*ker. Even then you are jumping to conclusions about what the asterisk
    stands for.

    No it is not.....

    Please beleive me...

It was not aimed at you or any corperal entity, honest! Again, I was refering to the old name -
Trail Walker. As for the asterisk.. have a look on Uk.rec.Cl*mbing. You know its part of the culture
on hill going groups, and somewhat fun for those of us who climb and walk. First time in 7 years I
have ever heard anyone have a hard time over it.

Please think again about your inferences.. You wont make an enemy of me easily, so there is nothing
to gain by ramping me up as foul mouthed troll (may be true mind). As someone involved in bothy
maintainance, I have always had it in for that publication....

Now your accusatiuon would hold true in one case: You are Trail itself! But then, magazines dont
post to newsgroups - do they?

    Peace?

    Richard Webb
