From a Country Lane walker in the 'Soft South' (your words) who spends many weekends walking on the
South Downs, but who also walks regularly in The Lakes, and occasionally in Snowdonia, Scotland,
Peak District, Andalucian Mountains, High Atlas Mountains, Nepal .......... up yours sir!--

.... but isn't it always raining 'up north'?
it rains whippets and cloth caps, so i'm told. Never seen it myself, but what would I know, being a
southerner. I think even the wettest Wasdale rain, is less wet than the actual lake, although it
comes close on occasion. But I cant complain, having had two dry Wasdale weeks in a row
We had the first rain for 37 years in Manchester today.

Didn't you get a bucket or two last week? I hear mention that The Mumbles was rather wet on one
forecast. The figures for the Swansea Valley go something like this :
Last year up to October 76 ins
This year up to October 45 ins.
(Roger - can you confirm that these approximate Lauries readings?)

So what you are saying is that despite the southerners Mind Set on anyone
who lives North of Watford Gap, its Ok to come & block our roads, erode our
pleasant mountain tracks etc etc. Always providing that you Don't have to
live in the "land that time forgot" ( southerners words not mine) ;-)

Sorry, no, I didn't pay too much attention to the actual figures. What I do know is that this year
has been very dry and their spring water supply had very nearly dried up for the first time. (They
have been there for more than 20 years.)--

lakes/reservoirs and bogs. I'm used to a lot more rain than this.Don't know about the forecast, but Mumbles was on the BBC1 news on the 14th as recording the
strongest winds of the day - 84mph. Apparently the gales swept further south than expected.Paul
