  1. I'm in the prelim stages of creating a web site via Front Page. My existing domain name host quotes
£150 + vat for 100mb for 2 years, and supports Front Page. Is this realistic?? My ADSL acc, Zen, is
quoting £50 more for 100mb plus £50 annual hosting charge, but transfer fee waived. Any viewpoints?

    Tks Robert

Sounds a bit steep to me. I've got unlimited webspace with ConnectFree and it costs me nothing at
all. My site is over 160 meg. However, they've been making changes recently and I don't think
    they're offering this anymore.

My brother recently looked into website hosting and found one which I think gave unlimited space and
was quite cheap, but I don't know the name offhand. I'll try to find out for you.

That's typically followed by questions to the web authoring groups about what's wrong. Get rid of
frontpage NOW, before you've put the effort into getting into extremely bad habits.

  5. Robert I would move very slowly to use ADSL or leased line to host a website because bandwidth is
not guaranteed and likely to be variable. I use OLM.net in the US. LIke most of the zillions of
hosting companies it is privately owned but unlike most of the other privately owned companies it is
large and efficient. Currently they have one of the most modern sets of easily added on scripts
included in the price (such as Gallery, postNuke, form handlers, shopping carts) as well as
relatively cheap storage. Their control panel is excellent. They offer 450Mb for $18.95/ mo and
there are lower rates. As well as competitive overall and novice features they also support advanced
features such as SSH command line access and have recent releases of languages such as PHP and Perl
installed (though the MySQL is still a version 3). They support Frontpage. Simon

How big is the site going to be? Connectfree give you free space but you have to dial in to
edit/upload your stuff, so you would be paying phone charges during this time. Netfirms give 25Mb, I
think, free, and you can use Front Page.

Try "OneandOne", Home package gives 500MB webspace, 100 POP3 email accounts, 400 aliases, free
domain transfer and supports Front Page. £9.99 set-up fee, £5.99 + vat per month. This is who I am
with and it cost me £76 this year with an additional domain. There is a link to them on my website
if you are interested or try oneandone.co.uk

I'm with Freedomnames, I pay £17 a year for the domain registration and I have to use their
number for email and uploads. No other costs, no size limit. (I use an unmetered NTL number for
    browsing and news)

I still say use fotopic.netfotopic.net to host your pictures. A reasonable amount of free space to
    be had there.

Well, I'd guess at abt 100mb - not actually certain abt this though!

Upload costs n/a as I am on ADSL.

I can arrange UK hosting for you at a sensible price if you like.

If interested email me with your requirements for a quote. Replacing the {d-sep03} with ds in my
email address will get my attention a little quicker as it won't be mixed with the other spam!

  11. Hi Robert,

Give www.sensical.net ago - £100 for 2 years with unlimited web space. If you let them know I sent
you - it may carry some weight if you want to negotiate.

    Hope that helps!
