The C80 range gets good reviews on luminous landscape, luminous-luminous-Open ↗

It's generally not a good idea t try just black and white text printing from a photo printer - the
quality isn't that good and it gets expensive on ink. I run three printers which is possibly a
little excessive, a Lexmark for colour flyers and colour text, a mono laser for normal letters etc
and an Epson 1290S for actual photo output.

As far as I can remember the printer stops until you replace the offending cartridge. You do get
plenty of warning though.

A new thing I noticed a while ago from Canon is the ability to upload an image and they will send
you a test print from the printer of your choice. See link below

I got the precursor, the Canon S9000 (A3) for about £300. Six inks, independently replaced, but
still reckon on £1 for ink+paper for an A4 page.

No, I can see the sense in that. I have a laser B&W and a photo printer and my coloured text has to
be done on the photo colour, a bit expensive.

Perhaps I should get a cheap colour printer too.

I like my Canon S520 (not sure if they are still available though). Good quality colour prints and
very fast too. Cheap consumables.

I would say beware of the cost of consumables - I used to have a Lexmark but eventually threw it in
the bin because each cartridge was costing over £25 (and the photo cartridges were over £35). Canon
seem to get it right for my money. I rarely pay more than £5 for a cartridge these days and because
they are all separates there isn't any waste.

Thanks for the recommendation. It's still selling for about £150, but a trip to PC World might show
another special offer...

I will pop down to PC World tonight and see what selection they have, but will only buy something if
it's on offer and is cheaper than what I can get on the web. Usually, their RRP's are too high, but
they normally have offers.

Thanks for the reassurance. I will go to PC World tonight and see if they have this or any others in
stock and on sale.

If I wasn't on a budget with this printer then I'd look into getting separate ones, but my
hands are tied I'm afraid. But we have a laser printer in work and the text is perfect, so I
know what you mean.

I do prefer to go into a shop and buy something, so that's where PC World can be good if they have
any good offers. Otherwise, I do tend to use Dabs.com for a lot of computer related things as
they're normally the cheapest too...

You mention Sheffield trading standards, do you live in that area, or is that where ebuyer is based?
If you live in South Yorkshire, feel free to recommend any nice scenic walks around there, as I'm in
the area every weekend.

I have a Canon S520 and when a cartridge runs out it won't let you print unless you press the
'continue' button on the printer. This happens per job so it's fine if you just want to print the
odd document before replacing a cartridge.

I've read bad things about Ebuyer too. Apparently they're great unless there's a problem, in which
case it will take a long time to get sorted out.

Ebuyer is based in Attercliffe Sheffield last time I checked. They do seem to move a lot though.

I went to University of Sheffield and read pure chemistry, astronomy and electronics then spent
another five years in the city. Lots of interesting walks around the Peaks - what sort of walk
do you like?

One good place to start is Burbage Bowl - a valley at the bottom end of Stanage. No fixed walk
exists - loads of footpaths so just explore the area. Interesting parts are Higger Tor, Carl Wark
(iron age fort) and Stanage End. At the bottom is Toads Mouth, stand on the road and look north
toward it to see why, and then the Fox inn.

The footpath along the top of the cliff edge (ie most easterly of the two) has *much* better views
