  1. the site is getting some additional info, some helpful stuff on fibromyalgia regarding how
    disability examiners view the impairment.

    disabilitysecrets.comapplying for disability with fibromyalgia.html

also, there's a new site map which is still being built and the articles aren't done yet but at
least there are quick links to everything on the site from this one page.

    disabilitysecrets.comsocial security disability articles.html

hopefully some of you can get some benefit out of this. i think the info about the
conditions themselves and how disability actually treats them will be the best, but this is
    currently in progress

The Norwegian Dr. Ulf Maxhell has great success reversing Fibromyalgia with a simple doxycycline pulse-
regimen (long-term). Many of his patients went back to work.

Do you have any links regarding this information. I woudn't mind reading up on it a little. I've
been reading here and there the possible relationship between fibromyalgia and sleep disorder myself

Actually (I should have clarified but was a little zonked yesterday) the information I keep coming
across has to do with this: individuals with certain pain disorders caused by various ailments
(degenerative disc disease for example--to which I can testify "can be extremely painful"😉 sometimes
have trouble getting into the deeper modes of sleep. They basically cannot get into delta sleep
which is the level at which our internal body systems get the ok to start rebuilding tissure. Delta
sleep is regenerative sleep. If you don't get it, you don't regenerate. Little wonder, then, that
some people with degenerative back problems also develop syndromes (fibromyalgia) involving constant
fatigue and GENERALIZED pain throughout their entire bodies.

I don't know how many individuals at this forum have any experience with fibro, but i think the
interesting thing, from a disability point of view is this: if they continue to prove the causal
relationship between sleep disorder and fibromyalgia, it will be increasingly difficult in the
future to blow off this malady and say that it simply doesn't exist or is a figment of someone's imagination-----
which is basically how disability examiners view it. I know from experience on that one.

I have fibro and sleep apnea combined with other heatlh issues. They (meaning my employee retirment
system) have sent me to several specialists in addition to my own quest for medical assistance--
creating a barrage of doctors to the point that you don't know which was is up and which way is
down! Thus far, what I can determine is that stress, diabetes and thyroid are also tied in a loose
manner to fibro, but that fibro and sleep disorders walk nearly hand in hand. Fibromyalgia appears
to be sort of a catch-all, although ackowledging its existence is more than we did say... 10 or 15
years ago. It is something close to MS, yet different. Something close to rheumatoid arthritis, yet
also different. For me, it places me in a powerchair on most occassions. I would guess that many
people have multiple problems along with fibro. That is what makes it difficult when it comes to
disability folks (even employer type disability systems) because they seemingly want to separate
each thing wrong with you and say, "Well, what do we need to do to fix this, then that, then the
other." They want to affix an appropriate "cure" or "treatment" length to part of it, when, in fact,
it's the whole package that creates the over-extended problem--one that will take multiple years to
correct, if correction is even possible. Because it isn't something that they can put their fingers
on like a broken back or a heart condition, they (meaning the pencil pushers that decide whether you
can or cannot have treatment and/or disability) often want to relegate it to being psychosomatic,
which is really absurd and you shouldn't let them do it. Yes, overt stress aggravates the condition,
but it does not create the condition IMHO. At times, I would just *love* to give these disability
examiners and/or insurance treatment coordinators the gut wretching charlie horse type muscle spasms
that I get throughout my back, sides, neck, hips and chest to these people. If each of them could go
it for a month or so straight like I have or have to live on the pain and/or sleep medications that
are the only things that seemingly relieve the symptoms, I'm sure they'd change their tune about it
    being psychosomatic.

Anyway.... enough of a rant on the subject. I would be very interested in hearing the opinions of
others on this subject, though. How many folks out there are experiencing this type of trouble.
Oh... and there is a newsgroup for fibromyalgia if anyone has interest.

I was told that I have Fibromyalgia and I know there are several others here as well. In my case, I
see a direct relationship to the Fibro. and my thyroid. I developed a thyroid problem during
pregnancy and didn't go in for my follow-up like I was supposed to. I had made a cross country move
and had a hard time finding an Endo. who would see me. When I finally did, I had to wait 6 months to
see him! By the time I did, I was in horrible pain that lessened somewhat as he adjusted my
Synthroid, but never went fully away until I moved to another state and was finally put on the
correct dose. My former Dr. refused to cut my dose any further because I had stopped losing weight.
As a result, he was allowing me to run hyper thyroid. I feel soooo much better now! Can't say that
I'm totally symptomless though because I do take MSM. I have tried stopping it, but when I do, the
    pain comes right back.

you're absolutely right about that. fibro is kind of a catch all. Mostly, it isn't taken seriously.
However, there is a doctor (don't know his practice) in eastern north carolina who specializes in
the impairment and claims that he can identify fibromyalgia cases based on EEG. This makes PERFECT
SENSE since delta wave sleep is thought to be impaired in fibromyalgia sufferers. A lack of delta
stage sleep basically means that a person doesn't regenerate.

I think if this doctor is successful in proving himself, possibly one day, there might an entire
listing in the disability impairment manual for fibromyalgia all by itself

Exactly! I have a thyroid problem, diabetes, neuropathy and bad veins in my legs as well as the

Yeah, I know how to kill-file and I don't want to drag that [censored] into this NG. But it was a case of
one of those people who just kept coming back like the proverbial bad penny, using a different name

I have been to that NG, but stopped going a while back when one particular woman kept picking

I've been accused of the same in this group. What one person thinks "right," others might think
"wrong." It's just human nature. That's probably why they invented killfiles (i.e. poster blocks).
You are always free to use such a devise in any newsgroup.

actually, Joetta, don't blame the disability examiners too much. they really don't have the final
say on their cases. they have to conform to the policies of their particular DDS and very often have
their decisions overturned by their unit supervisors. I can tell you from personal DDS work
experience, unlike many----you don't want your supervisor thinking that your decisions are not in
line with management. Elsewise, you'll be looking for a new job.

The complaints about the system should really go to your local congressman or senator. They're the
    nitwits who wrote the programs.

Yeah, I know how to kill-file and I don't want to drag that [censored] into this NG. But it was a case
of one of those people who just kept coming back

    like

    Quoted message said:

the proverbial bad penny, using a different name each time. And yeah, we have a few on this NG
too, but that's a different story.

<smile> Yes, I've run across the name-changers in many groups. It seems to be a common issue for
those dilberately intent on people reading what they don't want to read. Otherwise, they'd leave
their name the same and just allow people to killfile them if they find whatever they have to say
objectionable. Thanks for the insight. I will remember it if I re-subscribe to the fibro newsgroup.
Unfortunately, at the moment, I have my hands full with several other groups I'm involved with and I
had to unsubscribe from the fibro list because I didn't feel I had the time to follow all of them.

actually, Joetta, don't blame the disability examiners too much. they really don't have the final
say on their cases. they have to conform to the policies of their particular DDS and very often
have their decisions overturned by their unit supervisors.

In my particular case, I don't think it would be governed by congressmen or senators. I was on SS
for about 8 years, but, fortunately, my symtoms went into a fairly long remission and I was able to
return to work for 8 years. Now that my symptoms are back in full flair, I am on disability leave
and currently applying for disability retirement in the Public Employees Retirement System. For
this, I thank the power that be as I know that if I am able to get my symptoms back under control
within a certain number of years, I will be able to gain reinstatement at the same level upon
return. But I certainly can remember the days of SS and the drawn out process it involved. I do
understand what you are saying, though. Workers are just that workers; they always have someone
    above them calling the shot.

Sorry, I didn't realize this was getting cross-posted to others until your post came through. Please
accept my apologies. I have cut the other groups from my response to the above posting and will keep
a better eye on what groups are contained in my responses from this point forward, although you
wouldn't thought that I would've known better by now. <sigh>
