Some day Hollywood will make a movie about Lances's 7 Tour de France victories. We all know, as
cyclists, that it will bomb at the box office. Let's face it, if you arn't a cyclist you don't have
a clue about what's going on in the TDF. So I don't expect the movie to be a high budget one, but I
hope, and really pray, that Hollywood doesn't star Robin Williams as Lance.

multiple Tours.Lance would probably want to play the lead role himself. Trek would love it! I agree it would bomb.

That would be fiction, then. I think he'll consider himself lucky enough to get 6. 7 -- no way.

I agree. If he gets the 6th, he'll probably retire from TdF's.

REAL programmers write self-modifying code.Announcing ain't the same as doing. I think if he doesn't get #6 he'll retire, if he does get #6 he may well try for #7.
The movie will bomb - it's more than an idea but less than a plan at this point. If I were the casting director I'd pick an unknown to play LA.
There was a very short lived TV version of Breaking Away starring that super stud athelete "Shaun Cassidy" as Dave... very painful to watch. Casting is critical to success in movies/TV.

Hollywood is all about virtual victories. In the Lemond movie that is coming out, he wins 10.

sport. If the film is produced well, it will sell plenty of tickets and may even have a significant
and permanent effect on the popularity as a participant sport and or as a spectatot sport. The sport
of cycling can only get more popular in the US. Sometimes things do change and it is events like
this that cause those changes. -

the local high school football team mascot became the focus of a movie called "Radio." It's done
quite well at the box office. If this story can work for Hollywood, the Lance story certainly can.
It's all in the screenplay and directing. (Of course, the Hollywood version of Radios's life and the
actual facts bear little resemblance.)I can envision a really awful Lance movie, but if it's done right, I can envision a pretty good
movie. Based on the things I hear about Lance, he's such a control freak that he'll probably dabble
in it to the point that it's completely insufferable.Bob C.

Right. They simply have to add a love interest. Maybe a little conflict with Hincapie.

. . . and then he might have time to ride the rest of the season. I don't have my stat book handy,
but didn't Merckx win the Giro five times -- with at least three of those in the same years he won
the TdF? And the Vuelta and Giro in one year? Hinault, Anquetil, Merckx -- all those guys won all
the major tours and rode full calendars. Lance has a compelling cancer story, and his TdF wins are
amazing, but if I were to watch a movie about cycling, it would be about Merckx or some other
champion from the pre-corporate packaging days. -- Jay Beattie. -

and more dominating cycling story.--

Wouldn't a film about Bob Roll be much more interesting and entertaining?

They were all great for their times. I don't think anyone could do today what they did back then.
Training technology has pushed rider performance so close to the physical limit, that winning a
world class event requires exploiting a peak which (by definition) cannot be maintained. So
maintaining a Tour-winning level of performance over a full calendar is probably impossible. Winning
more than one major event is probably impossible. Lance knows this, which is why he has concentrated
on winning the Tour. The days of Merckx are probably gone forever.Matt O.
