  1. I was asked this today and did not know what to say so I figure I would post on here. So lets say you are just starting out with 1 bike (Who has just 1 I ask you) and you wanted to get a tool kit to service that bike, what would you buy? So far I answered. Bike stand Bottom Bracket tool Crank/Arm puller Chain tool tire lever Chain whip What did I miss?

  2. FWIW. While it may seem to be inconvenient, I recommend you simply buy the tools on an as-needed basis ...

Regardless, you omitted a FLOOR PUMP, plus a set of Metric Allen Wrenches ... possibly some TORX wrenches (T25, T27) ... an adjustable crescent wrench ... plus, grease ... plus, rags (or, paper towels) ... a cleaning agent of some sort (e.g., dishwashing soap at the minimum) ...

  3. BTW. Cycling tools which you may NEVER need to use are ...

    1. Spoke Wrenches [because some people just prefer not working on their wheels] ...
    2. Cone Wrenches [because many hubs now have cartridge bearings]...
    3. a Pedal Wrench is probably only necessary if someone brutishly installed the pedals.
  4. I agree with the as needed basis, for instance you may or may not need a crank puller depending on your crank design but f it's not square taper or ISIS you may need a crank preload adjustment tool suitable for your crank.

But as pointed out allen wrenches and a pair of small screwdrivers for derailleur limit adjustment are pretty crucial as is a cassette removal tool in addition to the chain whip that matches your brand of cassette (SRM/Shimano or Campy). I'd also add either a dedicated chain checker or a good steel rule for measuring chain stretch.

  5. A good pair of cable cutters. Cables need to be replaced on a regular basis (some mechs say yearly, I'd say that's too often, more like 3-5 years).

    $3,500-$7,500.

Anything else is just...uncivilized old chap.

You missed a cassette removal tool.

  8. Crapsman?!?!

The Space Cadets use Crapsman tools? What? Is there a '67 427 hanging off a solar panel in the docking port?

At least there's a couple of Snap-On and Knipex items in the drawers. The non-sparking dead blow...everyone should have one in their tool chest.

  9. For $7K you can end your shopping with just one phone call. Shipping extra.
