So I have been working really hard the last few months. Making the most of my unemployment by busting my butt and getting into a shape other than round <---I know that wasn't funny lol.
I reached my first goal of 10 miles within two weeks and then hit my second goal of 20 miles two weeks later. I wanted a better time and was stoked when I passed other riders and got my average to 15 mph. The local loop that I go to is getting easier and I've stopped relying on dropping into the lowest gears.
This is important ( for me ) because for the last 6 years I have been a truck driver, and we aren't known for our "Endurance"!
Last week I realized I was getting lonely riding so I decided to go out and meet some of the local cyclist. The best place I could think of was a local bike shop and as luck would have it I had a flat tire. Although they were nice I could tell no one took me serious and when I asked if they knew of any clubs I was simply ignored.
Two days later I had to go back to the same shop. The tire they sold me blew before I took the bike out of the car and on principal they had to fix it...for free. Once again while being nice they purposely ignored my question about a club.
I've never been good at being the "New Kid" and I gotta say that this doesn't make things easier. In fact it made me so sad that I haven't taken my bike out since.
I don't wanna be in your stupid club anyway
So does this happen a lot? Do cyclist see heavy riders and totally dismiss them? I know it seems silly but I'm a little reluctant to even contact another club.
has anyone else run into these snobs?
