Steve, I know places that will ship whole lobsters to you via fedex. You'd just have to cut the
claws off and toss the rest of the lobster out. ;-P
Seriously, there are markets here in CT that will ship lobster, but dunno if they ship claws only.
This is a place I buy fish from; you might try them: flandersfish.comflandersfish.comOpen ↗

A lot of the claws really don't have a lot of meat in them (even the big ones). You'd be paying for
mostly exoskeleton. Why not just get some tails and be assured you're getting 90% meat by weight?

Thanks Jack, I'll check 'em out. We're kinda "turkeyed" out and just=20 had ham. It's just the two
of us for Christmas and I thought that some=20 claws and King Crab legs would make a dandy Christmas

them in our local Fish Market. I just thought that the claws=20 and legs would be a little

Yeah, it's definately an option. I just thought that the claws may be a little different. If I can't
find the claws I'll probably just go with live.

Well, if it were me I would have some lovely Dungeness Crabs shipped in. With a pot of homemade
Chowder, fresh sour dough bread and a crisp white wine, I'd be fa la la'ing all over the place!

Another option would be Fresh Florida Stone Crab Claws. Make some conch chowder and a key lime pie -

In the NY area there is a company that has been advertising as LiveLobsters. 1 800 LIVE LOB. Try
them. That may be able to oblige-I have not tried them so I don't know personally.

Yup. We both always like the claws better than the tail which is the reason for my quest. I have a
couple of "feeler" notes out to companies. If I get any positive replies I'll post the urls in case
anyone else is interested. It may be very tough this time of year though I suppose.

I have bought just claws before, and half the claws were almost empty. I've had that experience with
live lobsters, too. I have no desire to get ripped off.
Nice to see you thinking of me though, Sheldon Katz. Someday I'll have to enroll you obedience
classes, though. One with whips and chains fo course.

Thanks. I happen to be about 100miles north of NYC. Maybe I'll give 'em a call.

Ellen,
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person who prefers fresh Dungeness crab over lobster. Most
people think I'm nuts, but I'll take Dungeness or rock crab over lobster any day.
When I lived on the coast, dinner of fresh crab, corn on the cob, avocado, fresh tomatoes from the
garden, good bread, etc. for dinner out on the deck couldn't be beat.

Or King Crab. :-) No, you are not alone... I discovered some time back that Crab was better than
Lobster, at least to me.

Oh, GODS that sounds good! :-)
The best crab I ever had in my whole life tho' was in Coos Bay Oregon.
We were camped at one of the coastal Oregon campgrounds, and the moon was full. We had rented crab
traps that day and caught several legal sized dungenous crabs in the bay, and had bought some
butter, Spumanti Champagne, and some fresh bread from a local Deli.
We boiled the crabs in salt water, (they really do come out sweeter that way!) and ate them with the
fresh bread and butter, heated slightly over the campfire, with the Champagne,
under the full moon
surrounded by forest and cricket noises
with the ocean crashing in the background.....
It does not get any better than that. :-)

If you want to be a bit different you may want to consider Florida lobster (spiny lobster). It
has no claws.
Here is a link to a place that will ship overnight live Florida lobster. Frankly, I prefer it to
Maine lobster. It has little meat other than the tail but it is oh, so good!
farm-2-market.coms lobsters.htmlOpen ↗
They will also provide a link to a Maine lobster place, if that is what you prefer.
And, since I like to provide a recipe with a little bit of a twist, here is my mother's Florida
lobster salad recipe. It is very easy to make.
Lobster salad
1 lobster tail, cooked. Mayonnaise salt pepper 2 tbsp finely chopped onion finely chopped lettuce
Cut the membrane off the tail underside. You will need a kitchen scissor to cut next to the
swimmerettes. Remove the tail meat from the shell. Hold the meat on one hand with and run the tines
of a fork lengthwise on the tail. The meat should come off in strings. You will be left with an
empty tough membrane. SAve it to make broth with the tail shell.
You should have about a cupful or a bit more depending on the tail size of shredded lobster. Add
about two to three heaping tablespoonfuls of mayonnaise to the meat. Add the onion, salt and pepper
to taste and mix. After it is mixed add about half the resulting volume of the mix of lettuce.
You should have enough pepper that you can see a generous amount of black specks.
Serve on a large lettuce leaf with Ritz or Georgia crackers. Or serve on Ritz crackers.
Make a broth with the leftover shell and any leftover pieces and freeze.
Don't have lobster available and have company coming that you would like to impress? Make the same
as above but use a cooked chicken breast and add enough clam juice (or the broth from a previous
lobster salad) to give it a seafood-like aroma.
You can do a similar dish with shrimp either fresh or canned. I keep a couple of cans of tiny shrimp
in the cupboard for emergencies. If canned just mash witha fork. If fresh cut into very small pieces
or run through a food processor but don't overprocess.

Don't hold your breath Barbara, no success with the claws... *yet*. But I'm not about to give up
just yet. Gonna call a couple of more leads that I've gotten here (thanks all) and a one that I've
found so all hope isn't lost. The King Crab legs aren't a problem.

Thanks Bert. I'm familiar with Fla. lobster. Just that this time, I'd prefer the claws. May not end
up with 'em but I'm givin' it my best shot.

Off the topic, last time I bought King Crab legs, the guy was picking out the knuckles. I said, hey,
I'll take them, he was surprised. I like them. I surmise they aren't the best buy pound for pound,
but what can I say, I find them to be flavorful.

Thanks, I'd checked them.
As it turns out, no one has just the claws. I've given up. My ear hurts from all of the phone
calls... ;-)
I guess that she'll have to settle for a 2 lb live lobster and some king crab legs with it. I
ordered the lobsters from the site above. I can get them locally but ya never know how long they've
been in the tanks and I want 'em fresh for Christmas.
I suppose she'll get over the dissappointment. <g>
