I could have told you that... what I couldn't figure out is why you'd think claw meat would
    somehow be considered surplus.

Well, actually I didn't. I just thought that they had to do something with the claws from all of the
ones that end up as frozen tails. Actually, I did find some sources but they all said that this time
of year wasn't a good time.

No problem. She'll get over it, or not. ;-)

Stone Crab claws are widely available... but I've never tried them.

Anyone here have, and if so, how are they?

One of our kids gave us a gift certificate from this company and we have ordered from them. The
lobsters arrived overnight and were in excellent condition when they got here. We ordered 1 3/4-
2lb. lobsters and I'd say that they were closer to 2 1/2 lbs. The company is in RI.

    Thanks, I'd checked them.

As it turns out, no one has just the claws. I've given up. My ear hurts from all of the phone
    calls... ;-)

I guess that she'll have to settle for a 2 lb live lobster and some king crab legs with it. I
ordered the lobsters from the site above. I can get them locally but ya never know how long
they've been in the tanks and I want 'em fresh for Christmas.

I suppose she'll get over the dissappointment. <g>

You are going to serve her a _live_ lobster? Any chance of you taping that?

They are good. They are too good. They are too, too good. It makes me cry just to think how good
they are. (Sobbing now! I'm way up here and they are way down there!)

If I'm not mistaken, all that they harvest are the claws. They take the larger one and drop the
hapless crab back in the drink armed with a small claw. When that claw gets big enough to be useful,
they rip it off and eat it too. ;^)

    Oh! So good!

Thanks! :-) Next time I get to Central Market, I'll have to give them a try! I assume you just steam
    them like any other shellfish?

Harvesting them sounds kinda mean but on the other hand, it's nice that they don't kill the animal
and I imagine it keeps the harvest levels higher!

Crustaceans regenerate. When they remove those claws at the joint, their claws actually grow back!

Well, after much investigation I came to the conclusion that claws weren't' "do-able" this time of
    year for some reason.

So, I ordered from the url listed above. I ordered 2, 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 lb lobsters, figuring that with
the king crab legs that'd be great.

They arrived Christmas Eve day and were substantially larger than I had ordered. I didn't weigh them
but I'd guess 2 - 2 1/4 at least. Both females and in extremely good condition. Packed in seaweed,
moist newspaper, ice packs, tightly in styrofoam. Then tied into a plastic bag, that was then in a
paper bag and finally boxed. Geeze!

I checked them on the 24th and they were very lively after I got 'em away from the ice. So I packed
    'em back up.

The lobsters were excellent. I'd recommend this place to anyone.

btw, the crab legs are still in the freezer.

Don't you just love it when things turn out so well? By the way, what was that url again? *smile*

devil... I know I included Annes note with the url in it didn't it?? And no, I don't know 'em.
Although I kinda wish that I did. ;-)
