  1. Hi

I am interested in getting some training rollers for my bike (TACX Ecotrack
    ?)

Thing is, I use a three wheeled recumbant style hand cycle. Excellerator XLT
    PRO (similar to http://www.invacare.com/product_files/XLTPRO_400_B..jpg )

The front wheel is the driven wheel (27 gears)

As can be seen from the linked photo, Imy legs go either side of the front
wheel, therefore a trainer wouldn't fit, hence the rollers.

Because I sit further back, not so much weight would go on the front wheel,
so not sure if it would be able to drive the rollers, or if it would just
    slip.

Any thoughts / suggestions / experiences?

    TIA

    Darren

You may well have problems keeping the wheel straight on the rollers
because pedalling effort will tend to move the bars - you need to be
very smooth on free rollers. I think you'd be better off starting with
a turbo trainer and modifying it to attach to the leg rests or fork
blades, or just attach the resistance unit from a turbo or mag trainer
to the fork and support the cycle some other way.

From a friend of mine who uses a handcycle:-

    "Hey Waffles

I can't post on rec.cycling, and I'm too lazy to register, so you could post
    this up for me.

I use a Tacx turbo with my Quickie Shark. The support arms of the turbo go
through the leg supports, so you have to put your legs on the ground - not
    ideal but workable.

I guess you could try rollers but you may have to bolt them down and
    immobilise the rear wheels somehow."

Hope this is of some use.

  4. Thanks Rob

Can you suggest an 'entry level' trainer that may be suitable.

Sorry, but I'm a complete nopvice to this field

Could you please pass on my thanks to your friend.

I had thought about immobilising the back wheels - 2 bricks :-)
But I will investigate the Tacx turbo.

Any other suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Does the turbo attach to the axle of the front wheel?

Does the turbo attach to the axle of the front wheel?

Most (all?) turbos are designed to attach using the quick release through
the rear wheel. Front quick releases aren't as wide so might be worth
checking that the things on the turbo wot hold the ends of the quick
    release'll go that narrow.

I am really guessing here, but the wheel on the pictured bike has
derailuer gears, so could be a "standard" rear wheel, with an OLD
suitable for a Roller. The OP would have to measure the OLD to be
    certain though.

  8. Hi

It looks like a standard 'rear' wheel, with derailuer gearss

    BTW what is OLD ?

Velovision runs features on handcycles from time to time so Peter
Eland (or a reader) might have some experience or know some more
handcyclists to put the question to

    Darren

    Further response:-

    "My pleasure.

The turbo attaches to the front wheel Q/R skewer. Tacx supply one that fits
    into the support arms."

I have a Top End XLT Gold and use a Minarau Turbo Trainer when I can with
it. I am a double above knee amputee so I don't have to worry about the leg
holders being in the way but you can always take them off or fold them down
    to fit.

I have a Word.doc copy of an article on Trainers that was publish in Chain
Drive back in 2004. This is the newsletter for the UK Handcycling
    Association http://www.handcyclinguk.org.uk/.

If you would like a copy of the .doc then let me know (just remove the
nospam) and I can e-mail it on to you.

I have been able to download and decode the word doc from your postings.

    Very much appreciated.
