If some of you are looking for a structured training plan to get in shape, but want to do it yourself without a coach, I created a web site that allows you to create your own plan.
You enter the date you want to peak, the date you want to start training, and workouts will be created for your base, build, race preparation, and taper phases. And within each phase, you will get a micro cycle that builds up then has a recovery period.

One of the great Italian cyclists, Fausto Coppi, had the following advice.
Ride the bike, ride the bike, ride the bike!
Look what that did for Tom Simpson.
Did he not combine riding the bike with significant levels of substance use?
Indeed (I think his case was the first TDF drugs scandal) but if he'd stopped after "ride the bike" rather than trying to do it again and again he probably wouldn't have dropped dead. OTOH if riders hadn't been restricted in the amount of water they were allowed then he might well have survived.

Yes, I'd forgotten about the water limits. Still, it's reassuring to know that the organisers of the TdF have always been somewhat bonkers.
