The list over-rated pop groups starts like this:
1. Green Day
2. Milli Vanilli
...Milli Vanilli is right-rated. They are widely regarded as a musical
train wreck that also turned out to be an artistic fraud*, and that is
exactly correct.Green Day gets graded on a curve, and of all the post-punk bands, they
are far and away the least horrible.I'm still trying to figure out the point of this video, unless it is
meant to suggest that if the ASO just eliminates a few more riders,
Boonen may be able to pull the Merckx Triple of Green, Yellow, and Poxy
jerseys all in one year.*In retrospect, the whole controversy over Milli Vanilli, which was
probably the main reason why Milli (or was it Vanilli**) killed himself,
seems grossly overblown. They were the pretty faces that fronted for
actual composers and singers who were, apparently, perfectly happy to
have them do it. The outrage seems to come down to the fact that Pilatus
and Morvan were identified as the actual singers in the US liner notes,
and they accepted a Grammy for it. This seems only slightly more silly
than worrying that Roderick Jaynes didn't really edit "No Country for
Old Men." Indeed, there's a case to be made that Daft Punk has been more
artistically bankrupt*** than Milli Vanilli:http://www.pliink.com/mt/marxy/archives/2007/02/daft.html
**Rob Pilatus died in 1998 after a pills-and-booze mix. LIVEDRUNK cannot
recommend this particular cocktail.***Well, it's not much of a case, but Daft Punk has always been more
highly regarded as a creative force, so some people took the revelation
that they were sampling their way to glory pretty hard. Milli Vanilli,
on the other hand...it's hard to believe that anyone ever took them
seriously. It's like taking Ace of Bass seriously. BTW, Ace of Bass is
over-rated: people think they are a crummy ABBA knock-off band, when in
fact they are an astoundingly terrible and downright infuriatingly bad
ABBA knock-off band, as if your stupid kid sister was making fake ABBA
songs using GarageBand.--

And you see, rbr is why I don't get anything done. Because of the punk

...Milli Vanilli is right-rated. They are widely regarded as a musical

you're talking about after they "turned out to be", I agree.Quoted message said:

2. "least horrible" is not the same as "least over-rated". When I turn
on the radio, the annoying band I hear most is Green Day."The Killers" might compete with "Green Day", but first their vocalist
has to get throat cancer and whoever writes the lyrics has to have a
lobotomy. Then the radio will have to play them twice as much as they
already do. At that point, we'll have a contest. -

Starship wasn't half bad, but the lyrics in that particular song were
the ultimate in cheese.Yep, "City" is pretty awful. But worst song evah? "Achy Breaky" is like a nursery
rhyme (and Billy Ray gets many points knocked off for wearing that haircut - the Achy
Breaky Big Mistakey). What the hell, why wasn't that Lee Greenwood song on that list
(all of which are awful)?Sometimes cheesy lyrics transcend their own vapidity - check out "Sand" or "Summer
Wine" by Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra.--

To a degree, they are. Cobain had a fairly predictable style - after you heard a
couple of his songs, you knew the structure of almost all of them. Having said that,
he (like BJ Armstrong) did write a few good hooks.--
