  1. Bought this computer about one month ago and it has worked flawlessly until now. A couple of days
ago i realized that the registered distance for my commute to work was getting far to short. Further
investigation showed that after a while (about 30 mins.) the speed displayed was much lower than it
should have been and it finally went to zero. Has anybody experienced this? I guess it could be a
bad battery, but the unit has been in use for only one month.

Forgot to tell that after the computer had rested while I was at work, it worked for the 45 min.

That sounds exactly like my Cateye Cordless II when the temperatures are down. Depending on the
temperature outside it will function properly for a while. Always after coming out from the warm
inside, but never for very long in the vicinity of 0 degrees Celsius. Changing the battery didn't
fix the problem. Only allowed it to work a few more minutes before failing.

  4. How cold is your commune to work? Is the ride home warmer? A marginal battery (in the transmitter
perhaps) may not work at all in exremely cold weather.

    Just a thought.

Check the alignment of the sensor & wheel magnet.

Make sure the transmitter and receiver units are as close together as possible with clear 'line of
    sight' between them.

Temperature probably affects one of the two signals.

Nowadays it's not cold at all, well at least not in Norwegian standards. This morning was around
+2deg. C. Yesterday a bit warmer. I have used it down to -6 degs.C without problems, but that's
about twa weeks ago. I guess the temp rises a few degs. during the day so it could of course well be
a marginal battery. But as I said it has been used for only one month and should have lasted much
    longer. Hjalmar

Did you change the battery in the computer itself or in the transmitter? There is nothing wrong with
the brightness of the display so don't think the computer battery is gone. Could be the transmitter
    battery though. Hjalmar Hjalmar

Done that. I moved the transmitter as high up on the fork as I could. Remember it works for a while.
After a resting period it works again for a while. I would expec bad transmitter battery but I'm not

I don't remember exactly. I think I changed one first and then the other. It just seems as the
receiver / display works after coming out from the warm. Ie the bike with the transmitter is always
cold but I do bring the receiver/ display inside.

Yesterday when I first discovered the problem I parked my bike in a warm garage while at work. On my

    receiver. Hjalmar

Yes I agree on that. I've sent a note to the shop were I bought it and asked if this is common. I
bought it over the internet from a shop in UK and will ask then to send me a new battery. Hjalmar

I have a pair of older wireless-ed BC800s. It seems to me that the transmitters on the fork eat
batteries. I don't get much more than 4-6mos out of them riding them or not.

I'd try replacing the batteries at your first opportunity. That should fix the "problem" till next
    time the batteries run down.

    Mike

  14. I had a different brand of wireless computer for awhile and noticed that at certain locations it
would begin to give erratic readings. I suspect there is a lot of electrical interference in those
areas. Perhaps that is your problem.

Make sure to tell me if you can fix it by changing batterys. I'm contemplating getting rid of my
Cateye for this reason only. Last winter is when I had problems and it was running side by side with
a cordless Polar HRM. The Polar recorded both speed, cadence and of course HR, whereas the Cateye
would only record speed for 30-60 minutes each ride, even after changing batterys. Can it be the
    windfactor chilling it down?

I disagree. If this is a reed switch like my Sigma 800, then it might just be the flimsy metal
reed becoming stiffer in the cold or being locked up with frozen condensation (lube, dilithium
    residue, etc...).

I'm pretty far to the North, myself, and I can tell you this, I have parts that freeze all the time,
but, for the most part, these parts are all supposed to have brute force applied on them (shifters,
brake levers, crank stuff, etc...)--the reed switch in your computer's reciever is not. And, add to
that, it's sealed to prevent it. Just my 2 öre.

I think poor battery is a common problem due to long shelf time for products with included button
cell batteries. The battery in my Polar 710i failed short time after I bought it, first the speed
transmitter and a month later the pulse transmitter. This model requires that the batteries is
replaced by a service shop/factory, but they seem to the recognize this problem and replaced them
for free, no questions asked. (usually they charge a fee). After this the units have been frequently
used during eight months and are working very well (also in cold weather, but with the name 'Polar'
    it really should...).

No, it's not that. It just starts to fail and from there it goes from bad to worse until there is no

Yes, I'll change batteries and see what happens.I guess it's the transmitter which is the most
sensitive part here. I took it off yesterday. The battery compartment is locked with 6 tiny screws
of which I had no srewdriver that would fit. So I'll have to take it to my LBS probably to have them
    help me out. Hjalmar
