a week's provisions in a rucksack for the sand marathon. Plus the day's
water rations.
Yeah, that's harsh. I'm just getting back into running myself after a
very frustrating almost completely run-free couple months (illness,
then some random hamstring thing from out of the blue). My scale says
I only picked up one kg but my jeans say otherwise.
It's maddening to have worked up to joe positive mileage in the
spring, run some Dan Stumpus mileage in the early fall, and now find
myself a minute per mile slower on a 4 miler - *and* incur DOMS from
it. Geez.
I feel some of your pain.
Quoted message said:a) how can I definitively stop drinking alcohol? Really (trick question).
Can't help you there.
Then again I don't know that you'd get much helpful running advice
from AA or other groups with millions of man-years real world
experience of getting people to definitively stop drinking alcohol.
Quoted message said:b) when you're chatting with a white babe who doesn't run, what do you do
when a black babe (who runs AND looks like Diana Ross, or Halle Berry,
or... well you see my drift) suddenly comes online after months of
avoiding you? (OK so this is a weird, froggy/limey fantasy [...])
Can't help. But I'm curious: which one's the froggy and which is the
limey?
Quoted message said:c) how do you prove to your terminally silly wife (and a large slice of
the r.r audience) that point b) was British humour?
Can't help.
Quoted message said:d) How can you get to meet american running babes (don't worry Donald ;-)
without flying?
Live in America.
Quoted message said:e) Am I gay because I think Johnny Depp is cool?
f) Am I gay because I think the Elf is getting to be pretty cool a lot of
the time?
It's exceedingly unlikely either of those causes your homosexuality,
and frankly I'm surprised you'd blame it on them. I always considered
you more objective than that.
Quoted message said:g) Do any of you have experience of a broken toe which still hurts into
the 4th month after the injury?
Can't help.
Quoted message said:h) Do you need a life more than I do ?
More? Eh, probably not.
Quoted message said:i) Do you know of any good races in NY (C rather than state) around Easter
2008?
Don't worry; everyone knows that NY is the C, unless one says e.g.
"New York STATE" or "the STATE of New York" or "upstate". No
disrespect intended - outside of much of Long Island and the city of
Syracuse, it's a beautiful state. But "New York" without additional
context means the city of New York. (And "the city", as used by many
New Yorkers, narrows the context specifically to Manhattan; e.g.
Staten Islanders - technically residents of the city of New York -
will decide whether to drive or take the ferry into "the city". There
was also a good film called La Ciudad [http://www.imdb.com/title/
tt0168589 or http://www.pbs.org/itvs/thecity/film.html] but that
didn't mean just Manhattan.)
But can't help. NYRR doesn't seem to have published their 2008
schedule, and I'm too lazy to look up anything else, like when is
Easter, other local calendars, etc. Rest assured if you're around
here, around then, there'll be something somewhere. And Doug will
chime in soon suggesting you, and anyone else with or without legs,
consider the HAT 50k which is some time in spring and somewhere on the
eastern seaboard, I think.
What's your criteria for a "good" race anyhow?
Quoted message said:j) where can you get a decent pizza?
Absolutely correct, Avenue J! Well done. DiFara's on J is the best
in North America. If he's still open; I seem to recall hearing of him
being shut down once or twice earlier this year by the health
department. I haven't gotten out that way in quite some time nor
followed the news.
Closer to you, I understand there are some pretty good options in
Italy.
