  1. Hello all. I tend to deal with quite a few injuries over the course of a year. Last year right
around this time I had a pesky ITB flare up about 5 weeks out from the Las Vegas Marathon. That one
took awhile to get over. I have also had a strained hamstring and a few other minor injuries.
Outside of the ITB problem though nothing has forced me to stop running.

Anyway, I think I have come down with a case of runners knee now. The bummer of it all is that I am
6 weeks out from the Disney Marathon. Does anyone who has dealt with this before have any advice on
how I can still train with this? It's 3 wees until taper time and I think that if I can make it
there I should be alright. Thanks for any advice.

    Running truly is a sickness.

  2. Do joggers ever post anything besides whiny complaints?

    Running truly is a sickness.

Have you looked into using a Cho-Pat device. When properly used it keeps you kneecap in place.
There's a competing product but I forget it's name. A good running store should sell them.

Have you thought about the cause of these injuries?

    Running truly is a sickness.

Running is a mental state performed using one's body with the primary motivator being the legs.

There are runners and ruinners. The latter choose running for health and fitness and in the process
a disease they know nothing about ends up ruining their bodies thoughtlessly yet with great
    enthusiasm, pride and righteousness

Running injured is often a symptom of this dreaded and life threatening disease. Running is not a
sickness rather running injured while training for events like a marathon is the symptom of a
    disease called
    psychosclerosis: Hardening of the head.

ppsychosclerosis is a state where the runner chooses to run thoughtlessly never using their brain to
analyze that if some humans can run smoothly, lightly and easily over the surface of the earth at
a 5 minute a mile pace, that they being human could run in good form lightly, quickly, easily.

While probably not ever to run at the same pace as a world class runner they could save their spine
and joints if the head hardening could be abated.

While many find it easier to look at shoes as the panacea, their head hardening makes it impossible
for them to realize that if you don't ask the right, you will get an answer and it will be the
    wrong answer.

It's not what you know that gets one in trouble. It's what one knows that isn't so that does.

Also with this illness comes great enjoyment and laughter for others as these runners make typos
that make sense yet alter the complete meaning of what they intended to say, as it joe smith's
premarathon bladder power workout: "It's 3 wees until taper time and I think that if I can make it
    there I should be alright."

Howdee-- New to posting here, but not to injuries...I assume by "runner's knee" you mean that you
have a form of patellar tendonitis Joe, which can be caused by a lot of things...unless the injury
was acute, i.e. it came upon you suddenly by a singular event, it's likely the result of
over-use(which is probably no surprise to you!)

It's 3 wees until taper time and I think that if I can make it there I should be alright.

Depending on the cause, a device that changes the angle of pull of the patellar tendon (something
like a "cho-pat"😉 can help the pain, but not correct the problem (I won't get into the
    possibilities...)

Reduce the swelling after a run by ice massage. That's taking a dixie cup and freezing it half full,
then, peel the cup back and massage the tendon with the ice for only 10-15' Do this post run, maybe
2-3x. Stretching you quadriceps will help as well.

How many miles/week do you run? Do you have proper shoes? Run varied surfaces? Any glaring form
deficiencies? Muscular imbalances? These are all questions I would be asking.

Unfortunately in over-use cases rest is the best...but not too practical with a race
approaching...there's lots of things you could do to help correct this...but that's a long story...

    Hope this helps.
