  1. Hi,
I am looking for two things right now. Something inexpensive that
will make full-sized grilled cheese and not divide them into pocket
sandwiches. I was thinking about the Wolfgang Puck panini grill and
just using it for the above or the Toastmaster Snackster, but with the
Toastmaster, I do not know if the plates are reversible and have flat
sides? Any suggestions and hopefully something inexpensive.
Also, I would like to get a bread machine. Something that is very
easy to use, where you can go and buy the different mixes at the major
stores and use it or your own recipes, plus be easy in doing so.
Again, inexpensive is better for my as I am on disability.
I always try Ebay first. While something may not be inexpensive at
the store, I always hope to get a deal on Ebay.

Thanks so much for your help,
    Hacienda

How about a frying pan and a metal spatula? You don't need anything else to
    make great grilled cheese sandwiches.

Absolutely correct. Actually, a frying pan does a better job than one of
    those machines.

How about a pan? They're available for as little as $2. It's
very versatile, too - unlimited possibilities with a pan. Heck,
you probably already own several of them. And it won't smash the
    [censored] out of your sandwich.

That's ridiculous. You can't make a grilled cheese sandwich in a
    pan!

You certainly can, and I have the ink jet refills as proof.

Grilled cheese sandwich. . .Heat a frying pan on medium high heat while you
butter two slices of bread (the buttered side is the outside of the
sandwich) Place one slice of bread butter side clown in the heated frying
pan, add cheese of your choice, top with the other slice of bread, butter
side to the outside. Check the bottom of the sandwich. When it is brown,
flip the sandwich and cook it until brown. Remove from pan and eat.

The cost of mixes is too high. Buy some flour, water is free, salt
practically so, you don't really need oil. Buy yeast by the pound. You can
make lots of bread for the cost of a couple of mixes.

Think 'skillet' for grilled cheese -- panini grills cost too much money.

I have the Cuisenart Panini maker, I like it, It has removable
plates, and a flat griddle area t too, One thing I really like is,
that it gets much hotter than the Foreman grills. Easy to keep clean
and has a lot of uses, I bout it on sale at Chef.com.

You're absolutely correct Steve! Personally I prefer a square griddle and a
spatula. That way you can make four at a time.

I have the Villaware Panini maker. Lately it has been sitting on the
counter, and put to good use daily now. I've had it quite a while, but I'm
loving it more and more. DH brought home previously substitute items on
sale. They found a good home at the thrift shop.
But this poster should consider a skillet if the budget will not stand it.
People like me take a lot of practically-not-used things to the thrift
shop -- hang out at a frequented one. They seem to be doing a thriving
business everytime I take something there.
