slightly ahead of me WVM turned left out of a side turning into the
same road. I.e. we were both headed in the same direction, with WVM
slightly ahead, and me alongside.
The pedestrian crossing lights were red. I stopped, WVM went through
on red, with me yelling "RED" after him.
"Unbelieveable!" I muttered as I cycled past him a minute later
shaking my head. "UNBELIEVABLE!" he yelled back.
If the Daily Wail is to be believed, such a thing doesn't happen. It's
cyclists who ignore red lights and the poor over-taxed motorists who
obey them.
Just as a converse, I was doing a quick hours blast last week just to
get me out of the house and I came upon a guy riding roughly the same
route. As I reached some lights he rode right through in front of me,
I could see the car next to me muttering and moaning and I commented
through his window that there were always some idiots on the road.
Eventually our lights changed and I caught up with the red-hopper by
the next lights, as did the car where the same happened again, the
car driver looked at me and laughed in acknowledgment. Finally the
lights changed again and I pedalled my legs off to catch the cyclist -
as I caught up with him and passed him (car was waiting behind) I
shouted, possibly a little agressively, that red lights applied to him
too and if it wasnt for ****ers like him we might not get a raw deal.
He started to make excuses but I continued to ride off ahead of him
and ignored his slightly stunned response. I passed the next lights
and eventually the car, me and him all gathered back up at the next
lights. He was silent and the car driver congratulated me on my
comments and their effect, and pointed out what an idiot the other guy
was. The other guy stopped at every set of lights from then until he
turned off 🙂 I feel Ive done my part for the week!
