middle square, Montrail then Vasque. Can you say OCD? There is a space
open for a new pair of Montrails on the way. "

personally i (hh) only have 2 pairs of running shoes, and the reason i
have 2 is because the guy at the shoe store insisted that i am a size
8.5 when i kept telling him i've been wearing an 8 in the same brand and
model for over a year. he pretty much browbeat me into buying the larger
size and i suffered thru a month wearing them, getting blisters on my
toes and under my arch after every run until i got fed up with being
foolish and ordered my usual size from an online site where i wouldn't
have to argue with sales people..

No it's not normal. He needs to double that amount. And there's a shoe
    missing. ;-)

Although you may have been correct this time, don't get too hung up on the
number. 8, 8.5, 9, it doesn't matter. It's whatever fits. Also, as you
continue your running career, your feet will most likely get larger. Over
the past 10 years I've gone up at least a full size in most shoes.

  3. Do you alphatize the items in your freezer and pantry too?

  4. One of the best recommendations I received about running shoes was to have
at the minimum two pairs if you're training on a daily basis. The reason
for this is that the support, be it foam or air or even metal springs, will
compress during your run and needs awhile to recover it's former shape. As
for the picture, it seems like the person has their fast trainers/racing
shoes at the top, and then a couple pairs of road shoes for alternating, as
well as some trail running shoes( a definite must). So I would have to say
that this is normal for someone who trains 5-6 days a week, races often, and
does some trail work as well. Plus the flip flops for sitting round on the
    deck and carbo-loading afterwards.

    Have fun out there,
    -Todd

  5. OK, I spotted Asics, Brooks, Saucony. What have I missed? See if you can
    spot any other brands...

Hey I thought you stopped using the Pegs.

This is my normal "shoepile" in the basement. Currently using 6 pairs
depending. Apparently 6-7 other pairs linger. The dark shadows by the mtn
bike tire are road bike shoes. Also buried in there are rollerblades, and
    some hiking boots.

My pile(s) come closest to Tony's, but may be dispersed at any given
time. Biggest pile is in the bedroom, but the "drying" pile is in
bathroom (warmest room and put near register). Some may be defrosting in
garage, ski boots live there (after dried) as do old hiking boots, and
winter boots usually reside in car. Original rigid ASR's get used for
    biking and sometimes Cascadias.

For most of my running, I'm usually in Trespasses (3 pairs in use) or
Adrenaline ASR's (2 pairs in use, one with screws) - depending if on
snowshoes or winter running or summer. Those are the ones in bedroom,
    unless drying.

It looks all neat and well organized. However, it's not a good storage
system for shoes. All your shoes are cramped in enclosed spaces that
block them from properly airing out. Also, it's not a system that
allows for the storage of dirty shoes. It takes a real candy to clean
their shoes and put them away. Shoes should be stored vertically with
the toes down so the inside can vent more and the debris can fall on a
tray. If you are not going to use the shoes much, it doesn't matter
    much how you store them.

Where's that guy who used to chime in all the time with, "Nike sucks!" :-)

  15. I originally received this advice at a running clinic but a quick search
brought up this article you can take a look at.

Having a second pair and rotating also allows the shoes to dry out
completely between uses, either sweat or rain/dew, thus elongating the shoes
    lifespan.
I forgot that in the original post.

You were smart -- I only ordered 2 pair of my vaporflys last time, and of
    course, they're now discontinued...

The vaporflys have thin wear layer of hard black stuff on the sole that
lasts longer than the upper does, I get 400 miles out of them on mostly
    dirt.

How do the mays wear, and do you wear them on trails?

And do you know of any other real light shoes with good cusioning?

Since they discontinued my Vaporflys, I'm using the Pegs on my recovery
days, until my new Katana Racer II's get here next week...

Depends on what you're comparing with, but the Nike Streak XC is very
cushy compared to say the waffle racers (which basically have no
cushioning) Not sure how it would hold up on trails though. I find
the uppers start falling apart at about 400 miles.

My first choice for a light trail shoe would still be the Nike waffle racers
(why did you stop wearing these ?).

I don't think anyone has much in the way of hard evidence, but I don't
know of anyone who believes that it hurts to rotate shoes. Skeptics might
question that it helps, but that's not an argument against rotating.
There are other practical arguments for it which tilt the balance in
favour of rotating. For example, it's alwys good to have at least one
reasonably new pair, and there are also advantages to having a spare pair
around (e.g. in winter, you're likely to get wet shoes)

    Cheers,
